Default B230ft puked out thrust bearing!

Has anyone experienced this?
My old 745tic engine started making all sorts of ruckus after a friend (who now owns the car) has beat on it for about 5 minutes.
We drained the oil for inspection, oil looked fine but at the bottom of the oil pan was (and still is) a, what appears to be, fully intact thrust bearing.
There are some other bits and pieces present also, but we had no time to pull the pan off to see what they were.
Crankshaft now walks 1/4". Still runs strong, probably not for much longer.
Will update as we rip the motor apart.
