Default Painting the 780 soon

Same color, just a brighter less creamy white. I want to have the body line a different color. (the line that runs the length of the car just under the top of the front & rear fenders. I'd like suggestions for color.

I was thinking light grey or silver?

Any suggestions from TB?

I think silver would be to harsh. A light gray/white 2-tone job would probably look good on it. Can you get anyone to photoshop it for you?

Two-tone paint jobs almost universally look terrible, IMO.

Pretty much.

A silver or gunmetal stripe might look decent on a white car though.

Okay, before someone assumes that I'm doing a 2-tone job, I am NOT. Just a light stripe of sorts. It'll be all white. Just something to break up the monotony.

In that case, the silver should look fine. I've had a few 940s and 240s that had silver stripes down the side and looked good. I would suggest you use a stripe kit at first to see if you really like it. Then, if it is something you want, add it with paint. Stripe kits take about 10 minutes to remove if you buy a 3M stripe eraser wheel. It really is the best thing since sliced bread.

I painted my 242 with a color from early 2000s fords named Oxford white. It's the same white you see on most 150/250s from those years. Don't two tone it.

Man, that looks good. Now I don't know. But in your case you have that side molding to break things up.

That's like saying, "it's gonna be the same red, just with less red and more orange."

or saying it's going to stay red, but with a darker or lighter hue.

Well, just wait until you paint your Bertone and then you will understand grasshopper. When you open the doors and the jambs don't match, when you open the hood and it looks like it is 2-toned, it will become crystal clear. After 25 years of doing insurance work and show cars, I can tell you what he is saying is spot on.

And what I'm saying is that it doesn't really concern me. I realize what he's saying is accurate. I didn't come here asking about everyone thoughts on the color choice, I wanted to know thoughts on the stripe if any. That's all.

In a few years when I have the money, I'll have it done professionally, but for now it needs to be done before the body rusts too much more. Thankfully the stone chip at the top edge of the windscreen molding alerted me of the issue.

I mean, if I wanted to make it totally awful, I could have just painted the whole thing flat or semi-gloss black.

And technically if I wanted to, I could paint under the hood and the jambs and what not. I do have a mini sprayer for that. Maybe I will. Who knows?

In your first post.

"Any suggestions from TB?"

With that open ended question, you opened the flood gates.

BMW Alpine white is Very nice. 05-12 I believe.

There are also some Super white's 2 & 3 from years back that can give you a hue of red or blue depending how you want it to accent with your interior.

A color change is 5X - 10X the work to do it right.
I mean where do you stop?
Jambs
Engine bay
Trunk
Exposed interior panels?

Pick the lighter shade of 189 if you must.

how about the creamy white from 740? its so slightly off white that you have to compare it to something white to see it.
to me its a really nice colour, not as harsh on the eyes as the other volvo white.

Look under the hood at the metal tag above the right head light. See if your 740 is color code 189. Code 189, Polar White varies quite a bit. It can look snow white like the 780 in the top pic all the way to the "creamy" white that is on your 740. It drives people like me that have to do paint work crazy.

Yeah there should be a dash and a number after the 189 too.

Blue double pinstripe. Have seen several brands come with OEM blue dbl pinstripe from factory.

If you can manage a proper job, then a creamier white on top
White looks good for a respray though, whole thing. Mitsu Evos came in a cool white.
