All,
I am taking my 242 from a CIS system that didn't work to EFI. Goals: reliable starts every time reliable some extra power reliable stays cools in traffic reliable What have I done this far to make sure I can meet the above goals? Replaced in-tank fuel pump (that was failing anyway) with newer, high flow pump removed motor removed wiring harness dealt with cancer Where to go from here? 1. The current engine was having oil pressure issues. My thought was to yank the sodium valves, put those in a different head (that isn't setup for CIS) and mate it to my B23 bottom end. 2. move oil filter (last time I changed the oil I think I removed the motor mount to get to the filter. I was going to put the filter closer to the oil cooler. 3. replace radiator - I am having an all copper radiator made, similar to the one IPD used to sell. 4. Re-route Intake system, using an intake manifold from a NA motor (I can do that right?) I was going to get one of those e-bay one size modified fits all kits and mount the intercooler in front of the condesor (or is it the evaporator) 5. Move battery and windwhiled washer tank to the trunk. 6. This is where things get fun (and I really need your guys help and experience.) Install and wire a MSIII. What would I like MSIII to do? Fuel Injection Waste Spark ignition Methanol / Water Injection (hence the moving the washer fluid tank to the back and making it bigger) What do I need to do this? My understanding is I need to add a few sensors: TPS from later model (like a 940) Some sort of speed sensor (mount it off the harmonic damper?) new distrubitor that has all but one of the teelth cut off of the hall effects sensor Wide Band O2 sensor (already have that) Knock Sensor (also stock) Coolant Temp sensor (also stock) MAP sensor (comes on MSIII) What else do I need? Is Mega squirt the best bet? Can I also use mega squirt to actuate a boost controller? Thank you all! Andrew |

Yes to pretty much everything.
I've been running ms1 on a v2.2 board for, oh, since 2007. It can do everything on your wish list and more. As far as the best bet? That's a bucket of snakes. It is what it is. For a total outlay of anywhere between $140 to $300, it's pretty damn good compared to the nearest competitor. If you're looking for the ULTIMATE in reliability, convert to LH2.4/ezk116. If you're interested in ms... Depends on what you want to spend. For around the same cost as MS3 you can buy AEM EMS4, which is an absolutely great system for 4 cylinder cars.
