Default starting issues

So it's hit or miss, usually miss, when i try to start the 740.

When it does start:

A HORRIBLE cranking noise (almost a grind but more of a screech) occurs until it starts up.

When it doesn't start:

It just clicks just once, doesn't turn over or anything. I read about the park sensor not engaging, but the click it makes does not occur when trying to start in neutral or drive so i've ruled that out.

Only thing i can think of is the starter pinion binding with the ring gear. What do you guys think?

Yes, sounds starter related. Once it starts, no more noise
