So i'm contemplating installing my NPR intercooler. My car is an 88' 740ti.
What do you guys do for mounting/securing the bottom part of the intercooler? I want to keep the stock airbox setup. The thickness and width of the intercooler work fine, but it is a few inches too short. The bottom of the intercooler is a few inches away from the lower radiator support brackets. What do you guys do to mount the intercooler onto these brackets? Any of you guys fabricate a big rubber riser or bushing to fit into the brackets? I saw Simon's NPR intercooler installation vid and he uses a piece of wood. I'm trying for a long term solution here and wood will eventually rot/compress/degrade. Any ideas?

Is that...styrofoam???
Doesn't that stuff compress a little bit and rub away with friction? |

I was going to use rubber, but where the heck do ya get a block of rubber that big! I figured i could carve a couple pieces of rubber to work as a big intercooler mount, but just couldn't find a big rubber block.
I considered and aluminum bracket, but that intercooler is probably going to jump/vibe/shake around and eventually the alu mount will gall and damage the intercooler. |

Worried about wood? Use pressure treated deck planks....think they are about 3/4 thick. Otherwise, fab some supports out of mild steel and weld/bolt them in.

Styrofoam works well. There is nearly no downward pressure; it's held by the pipe connectors. Still, I opted to build a sheet metal ledge.

Cedar worked for me. Light and it doesn't rot.

I cut up used radiator hoses and stuffed them underneath, just added a little barrier so it wasn't metal on metal contact. Like others said the hoses/clamps held it in place.
