did i say something wrong? i decoded the vin a while back and those were the numbers shoot out to me.... idk some one else said it was wrong for the engine and tranny.

Well, the last year of the B23 was in 1984 and I've never seen an M45 (4-speed) in a 240 newer than 1988. They're always M47 (conventional 5-speed). Plus yours really looks like a B230 so if it's manual it's probably a B230F with an M47. :-P

Also, the B23E has 140hp and no cat, and was never available in the US.

Looks like a b230...m46/47?

Yellow dipstick, so B230F/Aw70 or Aw71. I think someone decoded their VIN wrong. For a 1991 240 sedan the VIN starts out as YV1AA884.... First two numerical digits are the engine code. Hence the B230F. The "4" is the number of doors.

In any case:

Current vehicle (1984.5/1985 245Ti - yes, car's more 1985 than 1984.5 now):

Stock B21FT mated to 1982 non-turbo M46...

Previous vehicle (1985 245Ti - shown under the knife - let smoke out of ballast resistor wire):

B23FT with K-jet head, B cam, non-turbo K-Jet manifold, mated to '81 M46 out of a 242DL with noisy OD.

Last driving 242 (1982 242T), with aforementioned B23FT - different 1981 M46 box, from Canadian GLT, though:

Original B21FT/M46 combo in same 242 (also saw use in my first 245T, a redwood metallic '83 245T):

First 242 - 1981 242DL:

B23E with M46 that was also used in a couple more 242's, but came out of an '81 242GLT from Canada - yes, Pulsair was plugged, also mixture was way lean, so car ran like a B23F car, even with K cam.

Original B21F:

This is the engine compartment in my 1991 240 sedan (244). Keep in mind this was all accomplished without pulling the engine out of car.

I did pull frt cover, A/C, P/S,WP , the T belt covers & pullys , dizzy, starter motor and transmission/bell hsg though, as well as carefully pulling & tying the MEWH out of the way. And a few other ancillary items.

You'd be surprised how well you can clean an engine compartment if you take your time,& try really hard.

You guys don't want to see my engine bay right now....

Since I've basically finished wrapping up my interior restoration, the exterior and engine bay are next on my list. I'm not going to be skipping detail on those two things either. I'll post up some pictures within the next 2 or so weeks of the progress.
