front windshield wiper issue

car - 1983 volvo 240GLT wagon

both front wipers dont work at all. upon further inspection, it appears that the metal post they attach too, it stripped the metal insides of the wiper arm down so now theyre not catching.

my question is, is it possible to replace that post, or should i just buy new wiper arms? i was contemplating pick n pull, but for something like this, i might buy new just to be safe.

They make the arms out of a softer metal than the shaft for just this reason- it's way easier & cheaper to replace just the arms than the whole wiper transmission (on a 240 it's no picnic to replace a wiper trans)

so, replace the arms and i should be good to go?

what about using something to solidify it into place, like a small bead of weld?

im plannin on keeping the car, i just want to make sure this never happens again >.<

did you ever figure out your wiper issue? I need a wiper trans and wondered if it was a hassle
