This is the long overdue build thread for my car, it's a 1983 Turbo I bought for $860 in early 2010. I was in a really ****ty place in my life and I had always wanted a black 244 turbo, before I had made the mistake of buying the first black 244 that came up on CL. This time I went with the first turbo car I found when I had the money, barely missing out on the same year car with a m46 for $500. This car is probably the reason I am typing this here today, I am the 13th owner and I plan on being the last. I've had 5 cars since this one, many were cleaner shells, more reliable, but this is the one I will keep.

Here's what it looked like when I got it home:

of course it wasn't hassle free

at this point I didn't know a lot about cars, I thought it had a blown headgasket because it boiled coolant after you shut it off. Turns out it was just the water cooled turbo. It sat for a while and I added single rounds and a flathood. Also junkyard IPD bars around this time.

Installed IPD lowering springs but they were for a wagon, gave it a funky stance. Sachs touring struts and used HD rear shocks. IPD firewall braces.

Future plans:
fix the front trim goddamn
maintenance ****, boost leak and cold start kjet crap
b21f intake
npr intercooler
B-cam
T5 or M46 maybe? I don't really mind the auto because it's bulletproof but I know I'd have more fun with a manual
bigger turbo
different seats
ac compressor delete
install windshield squirters
lose weight
replace driver side doors
fix sunroof
subs (already have a box) amp etc
shorter shocks

Car looks good now Ansel.

I really like the Hockenheim wheels, always have and the Bronze looks good on the black too. Never really realized how much work you had done on that car. Sounds like you need a tranny party.

Thanks man. I will probably plastidip the wheels, just saw a video with the bronze metalizer that looked good over black. The paint on these isn't the best and I'm still missing a center cap lock nut.

I am really torn on transmissions, m46 would be cheap and easy but I hate the idea of the overdrive and I'm afraid it would blow up, not because I'm making that much power but because I've always owned automatics. T5 gets more expensive but I feel like the peace of mind would be nice and no overdrive. I already have a good flat flywheel and pedal cluster.

This is the same as how I feel about swapping to LH2.2 vs megasquirt.

Just curious, do you know what shims you used for the dizzy?

No, it's the old one that either pat or ryan had in mad max, pat said it was like 100psi or something stupid. Since installing it almost a year ago I haven't had any issues but I may want to re-do the relay and some wiring, in-tank pump is new. I need to get a gauge on there again.
