virgo rims tire size

i only ever ran 195/60 R15.
everytrhing else didnt have a nice straight sidewall
My Pirelli P5000 205/55x15's did. Probably depends on the brand; the "205" is only the width of the tread, and that 5mm per-side difference in tread-width can be near-irrelevant compared to the difference between brands.

if your going to run them on the street, only go for a whatever/60... because changing to 55 or 50 will change your speedo reading. if it isnt street dw about it. im thinking of running 205 on the rear and 195 on the front when these tyres come in im waiting for. or maybe even 205s on the front and 195s on the rear to change the slip angle. still deciding

Well, you know what they say about opinions.......

Here's mine:

On non-lowered 245s, I believe 205/65R15 would be the most logical choice to maintain OE sidewall height and minimize speedo error. If I had Virgos(or any other 15" wheel for that matter) that's the size I'd choose.

205/60 is not so great on a Virgo because the wheel is only 6" wide, so the tire is not well supported by the wheel. I just had 205/60 put on my 7" wide MSW wheels, and the sidewall is straight. The tire fits well on a 7" wheel. I also wouldn't personally choose 205/65, because even more sidewall on a 205 on a 6" wheel is going to have poor steering response. If you don't mind that feeling, 14" wheels/tires are cheaper.

185/70/14 5.5"x14" to 195/60/15 6"x15" was a nice improvement on my car. 205/60 on 7"x15" is another step in the right direction while still maintaining a rather tall tire with a lot of sidewall.

towery, I'm aware we're coming from different camps(and I do value your opinion)...but most tire mfgs specify a rim width range of 5.5"-7" for 205/65R15. Granted, the 7" wide wheel will offer better support but the tire can be safely mounted on narrower rims. And wouldn't you agree that the steering response, overall lateral traction, and braking distances would be measurably improved when comparing the OE size of 185R14 to 205/65R15(regardless of rim width...within reason)?

I run 215/60's with no problems at all. Smooth ride for me, and my car is a cruiser.

Oh and I have no speedo errors either, i've driven buy one of those things that register your speed and it matched with the speedo.

I went to 15" wheels to get a smaller sidewall with a similar overall diameter. 205/65 wouldn't do it for me, but maybe wagon owners might like it. I'd still choose anything bigger/wider than the 14"s just for braking. However, I wanted to improve transitional response as well as grip.

Most people may not use the extra grip and response on a daily basis, but if you ever have to avoid accidents or deer or anything else, it's nice to be confident in what the car will do when you have to use it. I just practice it more than most do. ;-) Shocks/struts and tires are the two most important upgrades I've made that have changed how the car feels.

My dad uses 215/60/14 on 14x6 (mk3 VW Golf). They have more grip than the 185s or 195s that came on the car. But it doesn't FEEL good to me when I drive it. High speed sweepers on the highway took some getting used to. The tire bulges over the rim. The rim width is within the manufacturers range, but it would perform better with a wider wheel.

I have 205/55/15's on my dracos

my track tires are 205/50/15's i really dont recommend this size for street because freeway driving your at about 3,200 rpm with an m47

general uhp 205/55/15

Thanks for the pictures everyone.

Definitely between the 205/55 and 195/60 for me so far.

will a set of virgo rims fit on a 1990 240 dl?

I just bought a 1990 240 DL and was thinking about getting a set of virgo rims, does anyone know it they'll fit?

What size tire is a good fit for the virgo rims? :e-shrug:

Kind of a shot in the dark without intended purpose.

For practical purposes,to get a 25" wheel, and to keep the wheels from getting bent,
as they often do with the stock size,I use Falken Ziex 912's in 195-65-15.
Steering feels right, economy is good, the car really rolls, and they stick pretty good for touring tires.

I'm running 205/50's, and I like them. They look good, and handle a little better than the taller sidewall tires I had.

Pictures in my thread! =D
