Some of you are already familiar with my car. The paint was looking tired and worn. So i decided to spice things up. I painted it myself, in Pete's (flyingtog) garage. Olive Drab with military style stencil "STRV 103C" is a swedish tank from the early 90's. I felt it was fitting. Hope you enjoy.

tell us how it went with plastidipping. I have done a few sets of wheels with cans, but have been thinking about picking up a gun to spray.

Honestly, it's not that bad. I painted mine in a barn/garage. Prep work is the most time consuming. I watched hours of DIY videos from dipyourcar.com and just went for it. Wagner double duty control sprayer. Like $90 on amazon.

I like this, I'm interested in how durable it is. I did my 940 with Rustoleum (satin black) several years ago and it has held on nicely but is oxidizing. What kind of prep work did you have to do? Any surface prep or just masking?

Just cleaned my car really well. It hold up well. The areas of concern are the trunk/hood where you open them often. Because it's on a "round edge", they isn't much material sprayed there, and it's easy to start rubbing off/peeling in those areas. Once you get used to the "delicate" areas, it's not that bad. I've used a high pressure hose to clean my car with no issues. You gotta let you car "cure" for a few weeks in the sun/driving around before you can wash it. It give the paint several hours to harden in the sun.

Did you spray it using the kit?
Looks sweet!
I used a gun in the kit, but didn't order a full kit. Just 3 gallons of sprayable dip. If you watch DIY videos they give several recommended guns.

So what does it spray on like and how is the finish? Like paint? Like a "plasticy" coating?

Was it easy?

I plan to repaint the 740 next year when I am done with school and want to know if I should go traditional paint or try this. Tell me more.

I like... I've got a 130 series 4Runner lined up in Aus with dodgy metallic red paint (failing clear coat) and am looking at doing a Plasti-Dip job on it... very interesting to see the outcome, and I'd be looking at either the green or the tan/sandy colour.

very nice, thanks for all those pictures. I've been watching the dipyourcar videos too but paint is kinda on the backburner for a while for me.

How was spraying in the roof rail gutters? Do bertones have those also? Seems like a tricky spot to spray

The finish is matte, and slightly textured to the touch.

As you can see by my pictures, i masked off only the front areas of the trims, so anything else(like gutters) got sprayed.

The spray cans turn out like **** if you try to to large areas...... Definately get a gun and practice before spraying your whole car.

When I read the thread title I was all "nooooo". I'm not a fan of the plasti-dip everthing fad, but I approve of this. Your paint was pretty trashed, and the results are pretty gansta. Nice.

Thank you. I agree. This is my first attempt at plasti-dipping anything.

I did the same few weeks ago.

Well, what happens if it gets a nick or you get some oil that melts it away? Don't you have to respray that whole area?
