Im looking at picking up another redblock to build on the side and am not sure whether i want to go 8v or 16v.
My question is, when building a 16v +t redblock, is there anyway to lower the compression so that its more suitable for turbocharging, without using aftermarket components? or will it be fine with the stock 16v bottom end? |

That's one way, but not the only way.
You can drop a little bit with a thicker headgasket. You can also drop a bit by enlarging the compression chambers on the head. Or, you can just run it with stock compression. I ran 10psi on mine without issues, and plan to go higher now that my fuel system is bigger. |

The B234F engine should be fine under boost, what's the amount of boost you plan to run to worry about it giving out??

Picking one up at the yards?
Why not put that head on a B230FT squirter and roll out of the yard like that? Low compression turbo short block and your 16v head!

Someone also probably makes (or will be willing to make) low compression pistons.

Bore and stroke of the B234 is the same as the B234.... so you could use turbo pistons.
One advantage of the B234 block is the higher output oil pump.... no squirters, though. -Ryan

And its free to barrow.. See sticky at top of performance. There is no need to search for and pay money for a squirter block. |

i was under the impression that you needed to have the pistons cut/waved guided to run a 230ft block with the 16v head. I take it this would give me more potential over running a b234f block? |

As to the post about putting the 16v head on the B230FT while AT the wreckers, you'd still want to notch the pistons or measure for clearance. The idea was to get the lower compression turbo pistons on the cheap. No price difference between n/a block and turbo block from the diy wreckers. |
