![]() Is 100 amp alternator for 94-95 940 what I need for my 88 765 with B230FT? What's on there now is the 100 Amp Bosch from 1992 940 Turbo. Think this Bosch unit may have gone out. 7.29 volts output is not good.
The 94-95 940 100 amp is $166.99 +82.50 core The 92 940 100 amp is $184.99 +$66 core These are NAPA prices. Or could I have a battery going bad? If I listen to the stereo or talk hands free the battery will discharge rather quickly. I let it charge by driving and the engine will start next morning in 20*F temps. But I'm not sure how much cranking it would be able to do. I hate to take it to Autozone to have the battery tested. Most of them would want to sell me a new battery when I'd prefer buying a 1 year old Group 40-R used battery from a newer Ford for $35.

![]() The 94-95 cars are more likely to have either the 100amp denso or the Bosch unit that is like a large denso alternator. You can interchange all three types. Older Bosch, Denso, and newer Bosch. Just put your voltmeter on the battery and test the voltage before you start. Then check voltage after the start. The battery should be sitting no lower than about 12.6 after sitting before you start and the alternator should be 13.6 minimum at idle. Should be a bit higher in cold weather charging. If the weak battery is starting the car. Then the alternator is the failure.

![]() Charged battery overnight. Started up fine drove 1-1/2 miles to Advance Auto for testing. By the time I got the there the voltage was down to less than 9 volts. engine was still running but excessively rich. Radio and climate control both dead. Had to shut engine off for testing. This resulted in needing a jump.
Drove less than a mile and pulled into McDonald's trying to avoid stalling. Got a jump and almost made it a mile to home. Took 2 more jumps to get 2 more blocks. Took out the alternator and had someone take me to NAPA for testing. Test indicated it failed the first test, the light test. They told me it was dead. I have my son checking what he can get me a NAPA Power Premium Plus Reman alternator for through his NAPA work account. My NAPA price for 94-95 940 Bosch 100 amp alternator is $172.00. Ended up ordering one from O'Reilly for $98.99 and it will be at my local store by 2pm tomorrow. Good thing this alternator is easy to get to. Last edited by lummert; 02-05-2021 at 03:19 PM.. |

![]() I wouldn't waste my time with a NAPA reman Bosch 100A. Gregervin went through two of those in 6 months. They don't really rebuild them, so to speak.

![]() If it's one of the chain store rebuilds. They usually have a decent warranty. I've had them last upwards of a couple of years. Then get an exchange and you're on your way.

![]() I recently found a 100 amp alternator on Amazon for less than a hundred bucks and put it in my '86 740 Turbo: no issues whatsoever.
The company is Premier Gear, I should think they'd make one for your application. Last edited by Mr. V; 02-05-2021 at 06:18 PM.. |
