Cam Chain Confusion

Hai!

In the process of getting my XC70 working nicely and need some advice about the cam chain please. Mines got a chain but everywhere I'm looking for replacement parts has belts instead. Are they interchangeable, is it a part you can upgrade?

I'm going to do the waterpump at the same time but have done that before.

I'm a Volvo newbie with only a little experience working on cars, any info would be awesome.

As far as I know, the 2004 (mentioned in your other post) 5-cylinder engines came with belt drive. Did you get the year wrong, or is this some non-US version that may have been different?

Do you have 5 cylinders or 6? Later (2008+?) 6's had chains.

Thanks for getting back to me, I've put some details about the car below. Totally forgot to include them in the original post :/

It's a 2004 SE 2.5 Turbo Petrol (manual) 5 cylinder. It's a UK model and ex services. I've got no service history for it unfortunately, it's a rolling project I picked up cheap.

See if this VIN decoder gives any useful information.

Is there a chance someone changed out the engine? Engine have an ID plate on it?

No chain driven engines in those. Got to be something really special if it has.
