![]() I'm trying to see if the CR-712 that came with my new whip is working or not. The factory harness seems untouched, but the radio was in the backseat. No wiring is modified anywhere.
I have successfully dug out the 9 pin molex, but where do the two lighting wires plug in? The ones labeled Rheo (rheostat) and Dim? Do they piggyback onto the gauge cluster? Or is there a harness in there somewhere I haven't found yet? |

![]() I do have the amp and rear speakers. That stuff seems ok, but I need the radio to work before I can diagnose further.

![]() Guessing here. The 2 wires would be spliced into existing wiring without a harness. Dim would be headlights on, used to switch the LED display between bright and dim. Rheo would be dashboard backlighting from the rheostat. The radio should work fine with these disconnected, but won't light up properly at night.
There's manuals available on ebay, and it looks like there should be a DIN shorting plug in the EQ socket on the back of the radio. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1984-1987-V...oAAOSwBGJfzT0c https://www.ebay.com/itm/Volvo-CR-71...orig_cvip=true |

![]() It's working fine. I was just curious if there was a spot for these wires in the harness or not.
I'll be hijacking the eq loop to feed a DSP unit in the near future. |
