Default Piston Guided Rods configuration.

Hi gents,

I am New to this forum.

I am sure this subject has been discussed
at one point but could not find the proper
answer I need.

At shop my other colleges are Volvo enthusiast
and recently I just learned very random that the
240DL is piston guide configuration.

The engine I am working on for my track car is
BMW and as you all know it is Crankshaft rod
guided/driven.

There is nothing wrong with original BMW set up but
I really like the idea of Piston guided configuration
and I am after to reduce the drag created every time the
rod touches the crankshaft that is drag/loss.

By having the Piston Guided rod configuration this will
help the engine to rev taster due to less drag.

My question is to Volvo owners whom are racing or
driving very hard this configuration with his revs
let say 7500-8000rpm perhaps ?

How is the reliability/Longevity on this set up ?

Does anybody have/had any issues with this set up
on engine which is driven hard ?

Also how is the Piston design ?
Does one uses the small rod end direct to the piston
or there are shims made to take the offset.

Any input will be appreciated.

Regards,
Anri
