Default the Blue Brick 745T '88 Project Thread

Well, i've been reading here for the past years, been posting somewhat but thought why not show you my brick as i enjoy almost ervery other brick on this board. Besides that it also like somekind of dairy for myself. The car i bought 1,5 year ago is a 740 wagon from 1988, the turbo intercooler version. That were the two reasons for me to buy it, turbo and 745 (like the wagon 10 times better than the non wagons) . When i bought it, it was leaking oil pretty bad and the owner could not trace the leak. Besides that it was running good, had it's service on time and everything was stock with a nice 375000 km on the clock. Including the spring/shocks/bushings etc. So in the corners the car went all over the place, but in a straight line it did ok so i bought it. First thing to do was to locate the oil leak, after a day of cleaning the engine bay and checking and checking and checking, we found the ring on the turbo oil pipe that goes back in the block was bad. So when the rpm raised above 3000 rpm the oil would go outside of the block instead of in.. A few photo's of the car when i bought it:

[iIMG]http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k488/woes530/Turboturbo/P1010132.jpg[/IMG]

[iIMG]http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k488/woes530/Turboturbo/P1010134.jpg[/IMG]

[iIMG]http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k488/woes530/Turboturbo/P1010140.jpg[/IMG]

After that i needed to save money for a few months (still studying so not to rich here haha ) for the first "operation" The first thing i did then was buy two new headlights and replace the old ones with new clear(er) ones:

Operation 1 (cleaning op the headliner and the interior, fixing the headlights)

the old on the left, the new on the right:

pulled the complete headliner, and redid the whole thing with beige "leather". The sunroof was a bit of a PITA but it all went ok, pic of the drying process with the first layer of insulating stuff on it:

[iIMG]http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k488/woes530/Turboturbo/0039.jpg[/IMG]

and a quick shot of the headliner, somehow i don't have a shot of the interior when it was completed haha

[iIMG]http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k488/woes530/Turboturbo/0272.jpg[/IMG]

at that time i also bought a new distributor, sparkplugs cables, oil filter and sparkplugs (as we call it in holland: een kleine beurt) and changed the oil.

old:

[iIMG]http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k488/woes530/Turboturbo/IMG_0576.jpg[/IMG]

new (after 1 month)

[iIMG]http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k488/woes530/Turboturbo/0035.jpg[/IMG]

Operation 2 (springs, brakes, almost erverything thats under the car):

bought new springs, brakes, brake pads, PU-bushings, shocks (yellow koni's) and a rear swaybar, almost everything that you can think off that has to do with braking and handling:

[iIMG]http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k488/woes530/Turboturbo/075.jpg[/IMG]

When that was done, the car handled a lot better so the next thing i planned was changing the stock rims. 15 is to small for such a big car, but at the time a only had money to buy 16 " hydra's which i needed to paint etc etc

Heh that's the old 745 from Thuur (Arthur) a few years ago I've wanted to buy it, but on the way back I totalled my old 740 :(
Good to see it's in good hands! You've already welded the holes in the floor?

haha this has been a while. Since the last post due to study and work the car has been suspended for quite some time. But now I have found a bit more time and money to continue with her and get her running before the summer. Some photos to get things started.

Here she went to the the new home for a couple of months, where a mechanic will do some work for which i don't have the time. First fresh air in a year:

and off she went

new lh2.4 wiring

and here are the rimps that will get fresh tires and make my 740 more nice

Your wagon is mines twin here in the States! I even have the European Lights up front. All leather black interior though with electric sun roof. Yours looks great! Love the dark gray rims. Keep us updated.

Mine is also 2.2 and has the M46. I plan to spray the wheels at some point probably black. You can't tell in the pic but one side has the shiney aluminum wheels shown and the other side is the dull aluminum.
