What is the trick to replacing an externally regulated Alternator on a 79 242 GT with a newer internally regulated unit off of a newer 240?

Thanks all,
Greg

If your upgrading the alt to the bigger sized one, you need the adjuster bracket. Other then that, unplug the external regulator wires from the back of the alternator and tuck them over by the eternal reg. They are not needed..

Yes if you get just the alternator that goes with the external regulator like you have. Same deal just unplug the wire from the regulator out of the back of the old alt and plug it into the new one. There are some other wires of course. Swap those also. If you get the newer style like I said before the external regulator is not needed and it's wires. You could remove all that. Lighter for racing... Ha!
