Intermediate Seal Placement

Doing my timing belt, front seals, and water pump. Went to tap in the intermediate seal using some pvc and the old seal and after one or two taps it slipped much further than I anticipated. It is now sitting much further back than the old seal was. Is this a problem? Can I just make sure that it is even all the way around and then proceed with the install or am I just guaranteeing a horrible oil leak as soon as I start this thing up and should pull it out, buy a new one and try again?

I like to pull the sealing flange and fit new seals off the engine. When I do it I place the seal a little past flush with the housing, not very much. To me, it looks like you went too far. Don't forget to pack the inside of the seal with rubber grease to prevent the spring from popping out

Also make sure you don't roll the lip of the seals when fitting them over the shafts

Use plenty of rubber grease
