Are those cast headers from Hooker or fabricated? If cast - how heavy are they?

It might be an illusion, but I would be interested in some measurements of those manifolds total extension off the engine assembly is.? What is the total width of the engine assembly, at its bulkiest place, with the Hooker Manifolds installed.. If they are about the same or less, I might be able to use them as an option for some of the LS Volvo builds I have going on..

Robert - are yours LONG TUBE or shorties? The cast Hookers are just short exhaust manifolds -- not a long tube.

2fast - be great if you could jump on a bathroom scale without/with them and tell us what they actually weigh. Cast iron manifolds are usually - in a word - heavy.

Ours are shorty headers, and they basically hug the block tightly, with more of a rearward/center dump, and allow for the exhaust flanges to clear the body. These just drop into our P1800/Amazons from the top, without jacking or maneuvering the motor..

I will get some weights for you, but I am waiting for the production headers to get here next week, so I will post the weights then. They are very light, and come with a coated option also..

Robert - yours are fabricated - they'll weigh about what other "shorty" headers do. It's the cast Hooker units that I'd like weights on. I'll search their site....

Sure ill weigh myself with them if the guess of 8-10 pounds doesn't work for you. Is your car going into space or something where few pound difference will make or break the car?

Actually -- in space the extra pounds won't make any difference at all. As you know from our trading of PM's - I find things work better when I'm dealing with specifics rather than 'guesses'. But not to worry -- Hooker can tell me. They ship them all the time.

As for a few pounds making a difference -- they add up. And they add 'down'.

Edit - Hooker lists the weight as 32 lbs. -- I'm assuming for a pair.

For liftoff it would.... why do you think aerospace uses composites and other light weight materials?

Weight is a factory for our builds, that is for sure.. For instance, we are saving right about 30 pounds of weight with the 14in Wilwood front brake kits, over our standard General Motors 11 inch metric brake kit that our front end kits come from.. With the weight savings there, along with the weight saving from the actual crossmember/suspension kit, Performance Aluminum Radiators, our front end weight with the Accessorized LS V8 is within 30 pounds of the Oem four cylinder weight..

A few pounds here or there, can really change the performance and characteristics of your car. And that is why there is an science to it, that so much effort and money is put into proper weight and balance put into the high performance and race ready cars..

Get your own point -- that was MY point -- and the reason I asked the question - how much do they weigh. I like to add lightness whenever I can without a significant compromise. Some of us remember how much the old cast iron exhaust manifolds used to way. The Hookers are actually light by those standards. But heavy compared to a steel-tubed manifold.

Now - as I recall - you may be inverting yours and hanging a turbo off one side. The cast iron unit is definitely the way to go there.

But - we digress from the 2 Mike's build....back to the topic at hand. Love the engine stand fab....

Yeah, old engine stand, stock GM mount plates, some poly leaf spring bushings and Jr.'s welding and fab skills produce strong mounts that are square, matching the lines of the brick.

Thats why I stated going into space... I agree saving weight is important. Some things are worth the extra pound for a factory like fitup.

still need a normal valley cover? i have one, i just switched to a ls6 one with crank case ventilation. i also have a brand new vette water pump.

I need one, but with crankcase ventilation.
I will use the truck pump with a bracket fo ps/ alt from Dirty Dingo Motorsports.
Ls1 intake will fit truck accessories with this bracket.
