![]() yeah exactly. Lots of little free stuff like that adds up adds up
Just now. I decided to replace the rear panel for Davis. I knew there was tons of bondo there but jeezz dude. The driver tail never fit well. The fuel filler surround is pushed in... lots of cracking. I got tired of looking at it... maybe I'll get to the trunk replacement also. Need to drop the fuel tank I'll take better pictures tomorrow ![]() there was 1/4-1/3 inch of bondo in places ![]() |

![]() Hit the inner portion of the panel with some acid or rust treatment. Good on you for doing the work properly instead of slapping body filler in there and making a Bondo sculpture.
What are you using to drill out spot welds ? The HB tool or a regular drill bit ? |

![]() Good on you for fixing it. I think all old body work is just get it close with the snatch hammer and slather the bondo on.

![]() I only drilled out the spot welds on the inner panel. All others I cut close to the seam and sanded it down with 40 grit pedicure wheel Thank you for your kind words. Keep the thread going is making me work more on the car also ![]() Quote:
Not many wanted these even few years ago, bondo is a whole lot cheaper than actual body work Super hot today - 88F - goodbye spring in Butte Co. ![]() Finished grinding down the car and replacement panel. Sprayed it with rust converter. It says to wait 24h but I should be fine in a few to paint with primer. Next I need to drill holes on the bottom of the replacement piece this gives you an idea on how Im removing the old sheet panel without drilling out the spot welds ![]() ![]() ![]() waiting for rust to convert ![]() ![]() Last edited by Jack; 04-23-2019 at 04:33 PM.. |

![]() What do you call a pedicure wheel ? Looking at your tools, it looks like we're using the same things on your Amazon and my blue 1800S. I think 90% of what I cut turns itself into a 1/4 inch layer of pulverized metal and rust and lays itself all over my garage.

no used replacement panel would be normal without some sort of damage. The filler neck hole was a little off ![]() ehh good enought ![]() 5 seconds into spraying primer - pop, I loose the nozzle ![]() ![]() waiting on primer to dry, I went and drilled welding holes ![]() test fit - current trunk is all dented up. I pulled one from my burned coupe because there's no dents. My other 3 all have some issues ![]() test fitting with correct trunk (will be modifed to fit the older handle) ![]() ![]() welded up and removed most of the paint ![]() Last edited by Jack; 04-23-2019 at 09:13 PM.. |

![]() Thank you and everyone for checking in periodically, it actually motivates me to get stuff done
I had to reflow the solder on the filler neck - the neck wasn't centered in the body panel, I fixed that. Paint came off the gas tank - kids, that's why you should use primer ![]() quarter panels will be sanded and painted at some point. ![]() ![]() quick sandblasting on trunk ![]() neutralized remaing the rust and sanded with 220. ![]() couple of pin holes, welded up now. (trunk face wasn't happy) ![]() outside of trunk ![]() in primer, watching paint dry ![]() ![]() Last edited by Jack; 04-26-2019 at 01:08 AM.. |
