Is this head destroyed

You're right my bad, but as stated the fact remains that a JY head will be less than walking into a machine shop, or buying fancy butt valves.

Like more than lunch for two at the roach coach, but less than dinner for two if purchased on a sale day.

:cameron:

I already bought bigger valves from the group buy Gary was running. I'll probably end up getting another head since they are cheap. If the only difference between the FT and F heads is the valves the cleanest non turbo head I can find will likely be the move

Yes, the ports and everything else(aside from the T instead of M camshaft, sodium filled exhaust valves and different exhaust studs) should be the same among 530s, as far as I'm aware.

They are the same. I'm currently rocking a freshly refurb'd NA 530 on my wagon, had 1500 miles before it hit the yard (long story, know the shop that worked on it).

"New" ft has an external head gasket leak so I guess now is as good a time as ever to learn to port. Gonna cc the chambers before and after getting it surfaced and try to get it pretty similar. I can't/don't want to mess with head gasket thickness yet.

Good news is the valves didn't take much of a beating. If the port cleanup ends up being good i'll lap them all back in and see about running it.

Plus this whole endeavor reviled a coolant port the right size for my BMW 2 speed temp sensor, no more switch on the dash for me!

The current head on the FT will likely get a much better and more in depth port and polish plus the new valves eventually, then i'll learn more about squish area and calculating compression ratio.

What are the temperatures that the sensor is set to turn on and off each level at? It might not be ideal, or maybe it will be. It also depends what thermostat you run. Could be a cool find, though!

That's probably just a tstat housing leak. Looks like it.

You can weld the damage to the head and the machine it back down.

Back with another head that may be broken, 160 Kjet head so I don't have a spare on hand.

Reusing this thread since it fits, torn down the 160 head from "Matcha" to find 2 broken valve springs, lots of rust and the usual cracks between valve seats. #1 has cracks showing in the ports, 2-3-4 only in the chamber. Any use working with this head or should I case down a better one without rust stuck to it and cracks?

A 160 head? You want to weld the coolant passages if you are going to use a large coolant passage head for a lot of boost. Mike Aaron tells you that in the head article from about 17 years ago. large coolant passage 160 and 398 heads should not be used for boost significantly over stock without welding. That's from him.

I see crackage between the valve seats. Is it OK to run a head with the cracks there??

This is more my question, head will (if it's ok to run) be atop a NA b21 without any sort of power adders and under normal driving conditions.

I just spent $90 on a junkyard head with NO warranty and I got it back to the shop and noticed cracks between the valve seats on all 4 chambers.

Should I run it?

I bought a scp 405 head from overseas and after cleaning, it had cracks between all four valves and at least one crack from a valve seat to the spark plug threads. I did not run that head. My shop told me he could fix it but it will be a lot of work.
