Brand new '81 262C Bertone Coupe . . .

No idea. There is no visible marks on the wheels and we never lost a tire due to road damage. I don't even remember having a tire go flat.

Their machine was by Lehigh which was a lot less precise than the Speedy Round in the video. Their equipment required a lot more art than automation. Their technician seemed to be conscientious in doing a good job, especially with the customer and the general manager standing there but they will never be able to meet the 0.3 mm specs except accidently.

I only posted the Speedy Round video to show how having GOOD equipment will get better results. But in my research I've heard that wheels can never be completely true, need some off round. And tires are also off round and it is because of the two different measurements that a wheel can be balanced true. I'm not too sure about this conclusion. Your thoughts?

With the Hunter road force equipment the high/low of the wheel/tire can be matched for offset to get best roundness and balance but there are limits that mine exceeded. Three of four said 'suggest replace rim'.

Spent another delightful day in AWRS' repair shop. Called to verify that the wheels were ready and advised that they were. Drove 90 miles(third trip). First wheel without tire had 8 oz of weights stuck to it. Measured runout at about 0.045", about 3 times OEM specs. They worked on that and another rim for 4 hours and never got the last one within 0.045" even after a turn on the lathe. That tire had measured at one point 0.025" but in an effort to get it to 0.020" it got pushed out of round again . . . even after the lathe experience.

They didn't use any heat and only hydraulic push/pull. How much cold bending can these wheels take?

I wouldn't worry about the cold work Tom. Are your runout measurements at the wheel rim? I can tell you I was shocked at how much runout I had at the TIRE when I was chasing my driveline vibration post swap. While runout at the rim was negligible, one rear tire had .06" (how much 'higher' one part of the tread is than another). Once I balanced the driveshaft, the tires seem to absorb that as if they were perfectly round based on how smoothly it rolls. Because Volvo.

Nibble . . . Nibble . . . Nibble . . . .

Another beautiful day in the neighborhood!

Got both the bumpers back on and sorta aligned. Gotta get back a little to see if they look right. There is about a 1/4" left/right/up/down adjustment range with the hole size in the bumper shock plate. The front reflectors brightness is from the flash.

Got all the wheels back for the third time from Alloy Wheel Repair Specialist (AWRS) and one initially measured out of round by 0.030 inches and the wheel balance weights were 2.75 and 2.0 oz out of balance on a Hunter GSP 2700 Road Force Balance machine. New specification is 0.012" and local management and I agreed that I would be happy with 0.020".

Took that one tire/wheel to another tire store with similar equipment and will provide follow up tomorrow.

What should I expect out of a 're-manufacture' process at a nation wide wheel repair company?

Name contest

When I had the lower bronze painted I had a standard 'tag' painted. The intent was to have a gold '1981' applied. Now I have thoughts of 'naming' the Coupe and adding that to the 'tag'.

Thoughts on a name?

Italian? Swedish? Male? Female?

Thoughts appreciated.

In NY you are allowed to have 8 characters on a plate. I've toyed with the idea of having one for one of my coupes read NOT2MANY.

Nanci and I have that conversation from time to time. No great ideas as of yet. :)
