Is an alternator from a 90 Volvo 240 interchangeable for a 84 244 Turbo? I'm thinking yes but just wanted to confirm.I know there are amp differences among the years and I recall the tension brackets change.

You may need to put a larger terminal on the B+ large red wire. Or ream out the one on the car. It is better to put a larger terminal on the wire. A turbo has a six mm stud for the stock alternator. the 80 amp for the 90 is 8 mm stud.

You can also transfer over the upper bracket from the 90 to the turbo so you can more easily adjust the belt tension.

You should keep an eye out for a 100amp Denso. It will mostly drop in (grab the adjuster with it) and it's much smaller and lighter.
