Have you ever been sitting in traffic and your airbag randomly decides go off in your face. Well that happened to me today. FU AIRBAG

not too much collateral damage? my camaro split the dash, broke the windshield, and covered the interior in that burnt dusty stuff

sucks, but hopefully not too bad to fix

Yeah, right. Nice try.

Nice try, but.... Fail, indeed. First off, that's not an airbag. I have seen way too many of them, removed them after deployments, installed new ones. That aint no airbag. Secondly, that random deployment you speak of: It doesn't happen. Do you know how the system works, and how it's designed to deploy, or not deploy? Thirdly, like someone else mentioned, if you had a deployment, there would be lots of dust and residue in and on the interior surfaces of the car, which there is a noticeable lack of. You didn't do that good of a cleanup job, I dont think. My biggest question is, what in the hell inspired this? All that jazz with Toyota owners making up "my car mysteriously took off on it's own and scared me" stories? I have seen some bizzare stuff, but this stunt is truly bizzare. Would you like me to give you the name and number of a couple of Volvo Field Technical Specialists, that would be interested as hell, to investigate a "random deployment" in one of their cars? I guarantee you, they would come right out to see this. You might even be entitled to a settlement of some sort. If it were true, that is. Which it's not.

Your faith in electronic design engineers is misguided. no design failures DO happen, or everything would be perfect.

Also, as a person who has set off at least a dozen airbags, your claim of dust is bogus, the charges burn clean. The smoke lingers for about two minutes.

FAIL.

Wrong again. I too, have deployed many airbags, as well as carried out deployment refurbishments. The dust is there, and it is real. Deploy one in an open environment, such as a shop, sure, you will find little or no dust. Deploy bag or bags in a car, white dust will be found all over the interior surfaces. I have no reason to debate this further, as I have seen it enough times to know. I have also attended SRS classes with Volvo since 1990. I know how the systems work. You tell me: is the picture a real deployment? If you truly know the SRS system, you can tell in a second that isn't an airbag. Your claim of no dust, is in fact bogus. Ask any, no instead, go look in any car, in any body shop, with deployed bags. As you said, Fail. As for me, I stand by what I said.

I'm going to say fake, only because there are no brown stains on the seat and any mortal human would surely soil him/herself if that happened like you said.

If this were any other forum it would have worked.

YOU FAIL AT LIFE and don't ever call me a liar

There was dust and most of it was on me.

I mostly use them for launching alternators and seat parts, as well as adjusting body panels.
Then I use them as a handy man-purse for hauling my booty from the junkyard.

OP. at least your windshield looks to be unhurt.

Mr Volvo tried to be Mr Know it all. OOOPs. I hate when ignorant people speak before knowing what they are talking about or dont have all the information(like anyone on fox news). I wonder if he is an attorney, maybe he can file that "lawsuit" or at least call in the Volvo inspectors so you can get this settlement he is talking about. I am not an expert but ANY electrical short can trigger an airbag deployment, hence the f-ing warning in the factory owners manual. Hell, maybe Chuck Norris roundhouse kicked the front end while turbogreasel wasn't looking.

Some bags have more dust than others. In my experience, the dust was mostly airborne and any that settled onto the car surface was too thin to see with a picture, or blew away with the first few moving molecules of air.

OP, sorry to see this. I'm apparently allergic to the **** that's in those mother****ers.

That doesn't help my fears of the exact same thing happening to me

I completely trust modern safety systems, never once even doubted the ability of my 850's airbags to protect me. But the '90 740 wagon scares me to death. In fact, it's coming out sometime this week!

Volvo's are unlike other cars.

For example the Prius randomly accelerates and cannot be stopped. The 240 randomly decelerates, stops and cannot be pushed.
