Default Seats that fit 940/960

Searched, on TB and google. Couldn't find much.

Anyone swap in manual or aftermarket seats into these cars? 940SE would be a 760/960.

I'm looking to ditch these 80lb monsters and just install simple manual seats with good support. What have people done so far? Anyone making brackets I can just buy to use a 'sport' seat from one of the major seat mfgs?

Let me know! loosing 100lbs (factor in the 60lbs for 2 new manual seats) isn't something to scoff at. The stock seats aren't awesome comfortable 850 seats, and the heaters suck, so figure loose weight and make them work better anyway.

I went from the 760 gigantic monsters to a set of 740 Turbo manual operation leather covered sport seats. They bolted right in my 88 765 and were like half the weight.

Plugged in the seat heater connectors, and those worked too.

The whole set front and rear was 80 bucks at the You pull and pay junkyard. The only part was getting them out when it was 14 degrees in February. It was well worth it.

There is a trick to lining up the bolts, something like all the way to the back, then scoot a half inch forward in the tracks. One seat went right in, and the other took about an hour to get the posts to drop in the racks.

While you have them out if you have the scratch it is a perfect time to drop in a new carpet section (saw them somewhere for 200 bucks).

The seats are shown partially in my avatar, and that was one of the best things done to my car.

These are basically 850 seats that do bolt right in, are comfortable and look awesome.

Pretty much most all aftermarket seats will fit with adapters.

I have had good luck making corbeau seats seats work. They even sell brackets to fit our cars if you do not want to make your own.

Do any 850 or S70 or any other Volvo seats bolt in? Are the lower mounts removable, ie, could one remove the factory sliders from an 850 seat, and install the stock 960 or 740 or whatever sliders onto the 850 seats? Just using those for examples, hopefully you get my point.

Someone said 850 cushions will fit 7/9 seat frames, but I don't know that for sure.

That's exactly what I'm looking for.

Corbeau would be nice seats, and I see them on kijiji (craigslist) often as well. Like this: http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ535194482

The 850 seats are very, very comfortable (had both the R seats and standard seats in my 850s) but are also heavy pigs, and not 'sport' seats. Definitely want manual.

740 manual seats are also decent, but not supportive enough.

I'mma look into that corbeau adapter bracket.

Thanks guys. I searched for a while and found nothing, but figured somebody knew of brackets or direct fit seats.

Edit: just searched http://corbeau.com/service/seat_brackets/
The bracket says 760 83-88. Would this fit a 960 body style (940se)?

If so, $100 a pop. Not too bad, but if someone fab'd them up for less I'd buy them. Not in the mood to keep fabbing stuff for this car.

Kaplhenke sells converters that mount to the 900 seat brackets and then side mount to seats. Check them out.

I fitted manual s70 seats in my 9. Couldn't get the height adjustment figured out before the car got wrecked. Basically 4 bolts and dowels per side and a bunch of grinding to get the H point as low as possible, since the 7/9s have horrid driving position out of the box.

This. I got a corbeau mounted on the drivers side without much hassle. Then literally cut 3 inches of foam out of the bottom of the passenger seat just to try to get it down as far as possible. Still feels like your sitting on the roof riding shotgun.

Yea, it's not the best driving position. It's very truck/tractor like. Another reason why I'd like to get real seats in there.

Of note, Kaplhenke's converters look like they are for racing seat buckets, ie the solid shells, hence the side mounting. Since this is my DD, I'm still looking at reclining seats that these mfg's sell like the one I linked. I guess the only way to get one to work is to buy it and saw/drill/invent some stuff.

I would love to get a lower seat in my v90. If I sit up as straight as I can, my head has to kink to one side. Even a slight slouch causes my hair to hit the headliner.

Volvo wagons: we can fit all your gear.....except the tall driver.

Luckily, I'm now only 5' 10" (was 5' 11", that's settling for you). Don't have a problem with my head being too close to the head liner.

Which corbeau seats are you using? Thanks

I have that issue i am running the Corbeau Forza on custom volvo manual seat bracket with sun roof popped open i can not put a helmet on at this point. 6'4"

I need to get it lower 3 inches so i will look in relocating the crap under the seat and cutting it out to lower further or make a new seat pan.

1998 S90 seats in my 1988 760. Seats fit, wiring differs and ended up using the S90 seat belts.

I ordered the 760 Gle seat brackets from Corbeau. Looks like they'll fit fine in my 740. I'm not sure what Corbeau seats to buy. I'm hoping to sit a lot lower

Mk5 GTI seats have the same rail width, but need about a 2" bracket welded to the backs of the rails to bolt up.

Do they give you a lower seating position than stock? Got any pics?

Something I've read consistently on forums is that the Corbeau seats sit high for whatever reason. I can't confirm this from experience, but it's worth looking into.

Good to know. I was thinking I'd find some I Craigslist and ask to mount real quick before buying it. I could go the side mount route but I'd prefer a seat that reclines.
