Default Hi Turbobricks!

My name is Ryan, I'm 27, and I just bought a '97 Volvo 960 with the help of scottyd, a user here. We worked on a '92 245 Wagon for LeMons earlier this year, which was my first real attempt at working under the hood on a car.

After the experience, I am much more confident working on cars and hope to greatly expand my knowledge of Volvos and general auto mechanics.

My background is in computers and I currently work at iFixit, a website company that writes repair manuals for Apple and other electronics devices. I have seen the similarities between electronics and auto repair, and am trying to solidify common repair algorithms by diving in to self-auto repair.

Currently I run OBD-II diagnostics with a PLX Kiwi WiFi and DashCommand on my iPad. Before I can register the car, I need to get it smogged (in California) and so need to clear the codes. At the moment, codes I see on a regular basis are:

P0500 - Speed/accelerometer sensor?
P1030, P1035 - O2 sensor
P1307 - supposedly has something to do with the speed sensor and/or AC unit

I'm fairly sure of what I need to do to get the car to pass smog: replace the O2 sensor (Bank 1, sensor 1) and replace the speed sensor. If anyone has any feedback, I'd love to hear it.

In any case, I'm glad to be a part of the Volvo-owning community and look forward to sharing knowledge with all of you!

Hi Ryan, nice to meet you! I like the color scheme of your 744; I'm already thinking about what I could paint red to make my car look as cool.
