Yeah, I could be persuaded to drive up for that.

Your car was always Shifted Jr's favorite, with the "Cars" eyes and all (he's 9); he is as heartbroken as all the rest of us to see it in such a state. His first question was if you were O.K., and the fact that your Brick saved your lives made a real impression on him.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

That would be awesome if you came up too.
I can't even give him a hard time, it's too great a loss at this point.

No way. Once the a-pillar is buckled, I call the car a write off. Gotta call it sometime. John's 244 didn't *look* that bad. Only had a crinkled fender, trashed front core support and very fatigued bumper, but the gearbox was misaligned, trunk no longer closed properly and some body cracks grew considerably. Also, the sill was dented enough that if it had gotten in another wreck, god help him or his passenger. It had taken one hit there at ~20-25MPH on the front left, then took another front end to the ditch at ~35mph more straight on but still front left. The firewall sealant also cracked in many places and the car felt "unsettled" at best going down the highway. My flexy flier never hit 240 had fatigue at the panels on the inner fender that needed attention. The more I poked at John's car before it went to the crusher, the better I felt persuading john to let it go (which believe me, I hated to say)...that it really was too far gone for anything but a really pretty significant body restoration where one straightens it and stitches it back together very carefully (lots and lots of time) is really what is needed.

Unless you have a cage and reinforced shell to where one can make sure the cage and structural mountings are good and just slice off the smashed bit and weld in a donor bit, I'd just let the bent likely ripped up car RIP.

You can always find another volvo. At some point something is really not safe or fit to be going down the road. Logan's car was really nice, but I wouldn't even try to save that. It is toast. It has a lot to give a good bodied 240.

So sorry man. I know how much you loved that car.

If you do need help finding another one I'll keep an eye out around Santa Cruz for a 242, and when it comes time we can put all the stuff from 81' into it.

September blows. Last September I lost my R. Glad you are okay, and really hoping this really is'nt the start of a string of TB wrecks. They happen a few at a time.

Wow, so I wasn't expecting this...I opened this thread in excitement to possibly see a new mod done to your 242. To open it and see this............Realistically you can buy it back, strip the interior, yank the eikers, all suspension components, yada yada and do it again. Put it behind you, +1 to hear you're ok, looks like it was a nasty one!

Sorry you had to see this Don.

+1

Some people learn the hard way. I flipped a Subaru Impreza driving like a moron with my best friend in the car. Luckily we both walked away unhurt, and I gained a new respect for what not to do on the street.

Thanks again everyone for the support and kind words. These last few days have been rough. I have been going to my new job on only 4 hours (at the most) sleep per night. Let me tell you though, it REALLY helps to have good friends right now.

I got an estimate today on both my cars (for those who don't know, my other 242 got rear-ended about a year and half ago and never got fixed, but its still around) This one is gone. The guy refuses to touch it, and after his explanation, I don't blame him. My other car needs about $4500 worth of repairs, and then all this will go into it. (Horray for more debt!! ) My profile picture is the only picture I have of it right now, so look there so you know which one I am talking about.

I have definitely learned some things from this. Unfortunately, it is stuff I already thought I knew, but apparently not well enough. Sure was a blow to my ego...

It did. In two places. Its just hard to tell in those pics. If you stare at the first pic, you can kinda see it...

You better believe it. The whole interior is going into my other car as well as the engine, tranny, suspension and a few exterior parts like trim and tail lights.

I'm so incredibly sorry, Don. When I was at the crash site sobbing like a little girl, one of the many things that was haunting my mind was how much this car meant to you as well. I feel terrible.

Thats good advice. As much as I hate to get rid of it, It hurts to see it every time I come home from work. I will strip it as soon as possible and have it on its way...

Yeah... I'm kinda waiting to get sued, but I doubt it with how much he has going against him... I kinda wish I could help him, but Its hard when I am broke and he isn't even contacting anyone. Not even the police...

If you really want it, you can have the stripped shell... Dunno what good it will be though

If anyone wants the tan interior from my other car, the people who come to the meet have first dibs on leftover parts.

Edit: That has got to be my longest post ever. Took me about 25 mins...

Insurance is dragging their feet. I am still going to get the money for it though AND the massive dent the towing company put in my rear quarter panel.
