Right so its ages since i updated the GLT thread. Its because ive been trying to concentrate on getting Thor in some paint so much to be honest.
Oh and photobucket makes doing a thread update and actual hassle these days.
There has been numerous bits of progress since the last report, but unfortunately very little in the way of photos. The GLT is however doing a lot of miles. Ive almost owned it a year now, and its on 194,000 miles now, where it was on 170,000 when i bought it.
I have polybushed most of the car now, only either end of the trailing arms are left to do. Its made a pretty big difference to the way the car drives and handles.
Bought an R-sport steering wheel for a tenner
(he says with a smug grin...)
The car started making some nasty vibrations on accelerating, in the space of a fortnight it went from mild to very unpleasant and upon further inspection it was a collapsed bearing spider on the rearmost propshaft UJ
This was a pain in the arse but its all in the joys of running an old RWD
I did that at the same time as the torque rod bushes
Talked a mate from college into selling his saxo for a 240. (widdop94 on here)
Found out why it was losing so much coolant. One of the heater hoses near the bulkhead had split and was peeing coolant out, but only when the engine was revved (and therefore rocked, stretching the hose) which is why i never found it just looking around the engine bay with it ticking over. Replaced both hoses with genuine volvo parts
Cleaned up the engine bay
Picked up some bargain dunlop wintersport tyres for the virgos, so thats what its running at the moment
And here it is, sitting well with johns 245 turbo
The MOT is due in a fortnight, and the only thing i think it needs is brakes, which are on order and I plan to fit this weekend.
I have gone for a bit of an upgrade, after doing some research.
MTECdiscs front drilled and grooved discs
Mintex rear discs
and black diamond fast road spec pads all round.
Also some new handbrake cables to be fitted while im under there.
Apart from that, theres a couple of niggles I need to deal with, and as soon as I gather parts but after the MOT, im upgrading to an M90 gearbox, because my second M47 keeps giving me hints of becoming noisy, and I love the nicer gear change and better ratios of Johns 245 (with M90). Also, its part way towards the eventual turbo engine swap.
