I've wanted to convert my 242ti headlights to something brighter. First convert to a GT front end, and then toss in some of these.
example#1

The detailed info at the bottom of the page for the 7" round HID lightshttp://www.buytruckstuff.com/product.asp?selcategory=26&p_gpID=99

example#2Then there's this set off ebay (looks a little ghetto)http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33710&item=2416498424

check it out http://www.hids4less.com/www.

anyone have any experience with this stuff?

I had H4 Hella Lenses on my GT, and they were much brighter than the stock headlights. They are also a lot cheaper than converting to HID, I believe Cibie also makes a kit.

What got me going was my friends trick 2002turbo jetta. He had just converted to HID, and man-0-man, those lights were awesome!!! At first I figured that there would be no easy way to get some lights like that on my car, then I saw turbo16psi's bad-ass 244 with the xenons. If when you see a nice car with nice lights, and like me realize it looks nicer because of those lights... than you can understand why I'd want to do this mod...

That price on the HID conversion kits is a smoking deal. I can't even buy them for that from my wholesale supplier. MSRP on that kit is over $800 if you can believe what some people say... :e-shrug:

how much is a replacement headlight?

Now way I'm putting that kind of money's worth of hardware at the front of my car. One rock and you're cryin' yourself to sleep for a month while living off Kraft Dinner until you can afford a replacement.

Get a larger alternator form an NA car, red-do your headlight wiring, and get some hella h4's in 80/130 or so. Cheap, bright, and replaceable.

If you can just get replacement headlights for cheap then fair enough, but heck, the deductible for my windsheild is only 200 canadian.

Just some random friday night musings.

I went with the Sylvania Silver Stars. Major improvement over the OEM Halogens. They project a very white light. When they first came out they retailed for 24.99 got them last month for 19.99. I will never go back to the halogens.

I know where my next extra 400 buckles go
DON'T convert your 9004 housings to HID. HID bulbs' light source is equivelant to that of an axial-filament halogen, ie H4...9004 is transverse-filament...you'll create a hazardous beam pattern, and because HID is 3-4x as powerful as halogen, you get the idea.

Even if it did work, your beam pattern would still suck, and you'd be blinding people due to glare.

Get E-codes and convert those if anything.

[quote:f4c601275f]Capsule directly aligned to the original OEM bulb filament. Therefore, the original beam pattern is not altered.[/quote:f4c601275f]

supposedly its turned perpendicular, thats kinda what made it look special to me. any way to tell for sure? the bulb in the pic looks pretty strange, maybe its made lightly differently?

Did you notice this?? From the "features"

Extra long 20" wiring harness to igniter, 24" wiring harness to your power source.

Sealed compact Igniter with Intel Pentium chipset Three stage auto safety features prevent Ballast overload due to high heat, power spike, and irregular voltage.

Intel pentium chipset? on your headlights? whoa!
