Drove bosses 242 turbo Group A. What a Blast!!!

Ok strange. But anyway don?t you think that all "flathoods" came with intercooler from factory?

/Daniel
I would assume so, I've never seen one w/o intercooler.

There might be date stamps on the back of the gauges. Anyone willing to look?

This is a car near me that is really nice and original:

When you get a chance, would you check what flywheel it has and report back to us please.
You can see it through the clutch fork hole, so next time you have it jacked up take a peek.

I know mine has a dog dish flywheel.
I have the original clutch in the box that the new one came in.
I bought it NOS from someone here about 4-5 years ago.

The strangest part is that some do and some don't.

Maybe late 1983 manufacture and not sold before eligible for 1984 modification, but already in the US? They could have retro fitted the mods rather than bring in more 1984 cars to make up the 500 Evos required to homolated the 1984 changes

The green book B21FT intercooler says these modifications were introduced spring 1984:

-heavier flywheel 27,9 lb
-modified guard plate above fuel distributor
-new turbocharger wastegate actuator
-new charge air overpressure switch 14,9 psi
-new dashboard pressure gauge (modified scale)
-reinforced inlet hose between air mass meter and turbocharger
-electric cooling fan fitted as standard
-new type expansion tank and mounting bracket

I don?t think the 1983 intercooled "flathoods" have all these mods.

I had a 1984.5 242ti non flathood. The impression I got is that production continued into the 1984 year of non- inter cooled models but by late 1984(.5) all turbo models were intercooled, and continued through 1985 in the 244 and 245 since no '85. 242 models.
No electric fan on either of mine.

My SO has electric fan.
I had one '84 with factory intercooler.
My white '84 has dealer installed intercooler kit.

The one I pulled apart had a flat flywheel, someone else had pulled out the trans before me. The top 19mm bolt was missing on top of the bellhousing:roll:

My VADIS spare parts program says:

old boost gauge part nr 1323506 on Volvo 242 chassis number -244008
new boost gauge part nr 1347821 on Volvo 242 chassis number 244009-

and it also says:

Elbow pipe part nr 1346983 on the inlet manifold for intercooled B21FT part nr 499926, 499927 and that?s the part nr for 1984. I missed two part numbers earlier so the correct part nr for 1984 B21FT engine: 499868, 499869, 499926, 499927.

So all "flathoods" are very special.

Now I wonder what is the difference between the 1983 B21FT 499800 and 499801. It must be something I will continue to search in VADIS.
