i don't know the story of this one, but volvo did build a 264 with a gas turbine engine back in the 70s. They used a Kronogard Turbine Transmission, which looks very different from this engine though. 140 hp at 70K rpm, built by United Turbine AB (part of the Volvo group).

cool stuff!

It's not very fast because of the hydraulic drive. :-P

OBSHEL1 is a Volvo 240 sedan with an Allison 250 turboshaft. The roof has been removed, and there's seats in the booth for a total of 6. IIRC, it has an hydraulic clutch, meaning it can only go 100 km/h - but it can do so both forward and reverse. Built by some madmen at, again IIRC, Karup AFB.

That might be "interesting" with some proper gearing...

well it looks like ass
But it sounds like a fighter jet :-P

something like a rolls royce gnome would be nice too for in a car, largest version has over 1600hp, and weighs about 250kg. Add a proper gearbox and some ear protection when driving, should be fun :-P

vids anywhere of that? i don't exactly see the point, but maybe some vids would convince me otherwise?

not a jet, its a gas turbine, designed to produce torque, not thrust. power to weight and engine longevity are far greater than piston engines, but rebuilds cost way more.

this guy used a transmission
