240 LH2.4 crank no start

I've got a crank no start, tach jumps around like crazy, the injectors are pulsing super fast. RPM signal out of wack? Seems like a bad CPS so I put in a spare, same issue

Going to check continuity in the harness between the CPS and EZK, Wiring checks out. Anything else I should look at?

If it's helpful the car **** itself at a light, fired back up after pushing it off the road but idled terribly. Would run better when revved but died under load and won't do more then pop now

Well car fired up today, spit out code 2-1-4 from the EZK, RPM sensor signal absent intermittently. Tach correctly corresponded to RPM. Seems like my best bet to avoid it in the future is to take a look at the wring between the sensor and EZK, although they all had continuity and clean up grounds.

The wiring from the crank sensor to the EZK is shielded right?

Anyone have any tips on how to repair or redo this shielding?

This frustrated me enough one time to eliminate the connector. A previous sensor replacement (mea culpa) left the connector essentially at the bottom of a drip loop, and became a suspect when the resistance looking toward the CPS would vary when it was wiggled even as the wire to the sensor itself was held fast. That's a low level signal without enough EMF to pierce even the smallest layer of oxide on the contacts. The contact retaining tab was intact, and drag (contact pressure) was not too light, so I eliminated it. No more intermittent no-starts.

When my ezk failed it was a crank no start, it would sputter to life once in 50 cranks, might drive ten feet might drive 200, but never stayed running. Pops out the engine bay area and spark would happen when it wasn't supposed to happen causing my engine to stop suddenly and my belts would squeal.

It kept giving me 214 codes as well, after all the sensors I tried should have been working according to the meter, I decided it wasn't the cps.

You can check the resistance with key off and CPS unplugged of the two outer CPS pins, on the harness side, to the battery ground post. It should be a fraction of an ohm - the 2 outer pins are ground and shield, which are tied to battery ground within the EZK. Also check that the grounding wire lugs on the intake manifold are in good shape.

Ill go the checking and cleaning route before replacing the EZK, or wiring the sensor straight in. Car has been stalling when going from load to idle (after a pull then pushing in the clutch) for a while, I guess it finally decided to escalate to a no start. Resistance in the connector itself might be an issue, it was raining, but Ive got the plug on top with the sheath running downwards and dielectric in the plug so it wasn't visibly wet. But who knows about the back side of the connector.

Wiring between the EZK harness and CPS plug showed ~9 ohms with the $4 harbor freight multi-meter I keep in the car, I'll check that again and resistance between pin 1 and 3 to ground with something a little more trustworthy

Actually, that stumble is tune related, that's one thing I've had a hell of a time dialing out, think I'm possibly making progress finally. Made some tune changes, once I confirm they are good, if you want to swing by I can reflash you.

The cold shut-down at a light, that's what mine did when the sensor failed as well. You mentioned swapping it, was that with a new one or a JY one?

The stumble/stalling has been there since before, tune made it better iirc. Long story short it was a junkyard one, but yesterday the car fired right up with the old sensor, so I think it's more wiring related then the sensor itself.

Still down to swing by for a reflash, I need to get the issue sorted out so I can actually make it to the Pnp this time though

Yeah, that would help. lol

Once I get some run time on the current tune and prove out this is better, I'm definitely down to throw it on yours, should help with that stall I hope. That's been bugging me and I've got an auto.
