Default 89 Volvo LM7 engine swap Drift Project

This is my Volvo, It was slow and could barely do a burnout, but I was successful.

Pulled the old motor out to do a 5-speed swap and put on a stock Volvo turbo setup.

But then I had a better idea :D

Went to pnp and took the whole interior and chassis harness from that white 91 240sx and completly rewired the volvo with 240sx stuff.

It fits kinda, good enough.

green engine bay for extra horsepowers.

It's an SR20DET for those who didn't know.

Why A Volvo? My lacking drifting skills will probly do a number on the Body, and the cops will bug your sporty little red cars instead.

Still lots to do, but here it is for now. Updates will be fairly often, gunna aim for early spring to have it driveable

I'm using the stock silvia tranny that came with the engine, no weak volvo bs.

Engine is stock specs for now, more power when funds allow. I'll try and get some good pics of the mounting and dimensions.

Did you miss the black 240 wagon that already has this done?

And a sweet idea with the SR, I like it! Good luck with the project!

Just motor mounts was nervous about strength, but between the bolt and **** ton of weld, it should be good.

My girlfriend broke up with me, I got depressed and bought this car, and well, I'm the happiest I've been for a long time now. Gotta remember to stay single so I have time to get it done.

This is about as close to the christmas spirit as i get.

good work dude, looks like a good job but i'm not convinced that the mounts are good, can't tell too much from those photos though.

Just be thankfull you don't live where i do and you need to get a shop to do it and an engineering certificate for it to be leagal

I'll be keeping an eye on this one, keep it up!!

Good luck with the project. While I might disagree that an SR20 is a better idea than a redblock or whiteblock, to each his own.

Those mounts look fine, though you might reinforce that tab on the inside, seems like it's just hanging there. I love the swap idea!

There's a few other volvo guys in Kelowna, have you met them yet?

Good idea, I was considering tieing it into the crossmember, but I'm not sure yet. I know of a couple guys who once had volvos in the past, none currently owning/tuning volvos though.

Thanks For the good feedback everybody.

SR20DET is probably a similar price to get hold of in this country as a redblock in the same sort of condition, and so considering that a whiteblock isn't a simple drop-in the SR20DET is probably going to be cheaper than a whiteblock. And then you've got all the aftermarket that doesn't exist for anything with a Volvo badge on it.

The only reason not to do it is to be obtuse, really; that's the main reason I don't have an SR20DET in my 242.

I guess I just would rather put my work and time into engine building than making brackets and doing a crapton of rewiring. A redblock with B234 heads isn't hard to build and is capable of much more power than an SR20. However, as I said, different strokes for different folks. Props to anyone who actually does what they are talking about instead of talking on the internet about it. I suppose I just feel, when it comes down to it, there are few advantages to building a Volvo 240 over other similar RWD cars. However, the one advantage we do have is the strongest 4 cylinder engine ever put in a production car (with maybe the exception of the BMW M10/S14...not sure who would win that one). So, when I see someone rip the engine out and swap it for something else, I just wonder why they didn't start with a better platform. The assumption then is that they just want to be different, which is cool...but why not go all Volvo then. I think I will stop talking now, as its late and I am rambling everything that comes to my head.

Engine Mounts and crossmember officially done.

Finished motor mount, there is some triangulation on the back of the mount now.

Fluke shifter alignment, 1st 3rd 5th barely touch the edge

I may potentially hit stuff when trying to learn to drift, thatswhy I have a Volvo. Also, it just kinda rolled into what its become, sorta, spur of the moment. Next year may involve a different platform, plus the price of this engine was only about $500 more then +t and a m47 swap and a hell of alot more durable tranny wise. Plus now I can hang out with the cool kids in both the nissan and volvo groups
