i have a volvo tach that goes in the small gauge pod to the right of the cluster. i robbed it out of a parts car, and was wondering what needs to be done to make it function?

the car is a 91 245 with lh.2.4 (if thats at all relevent) came out of a 90' 245

are the wires already back there or do i have to run wires?

btw i tried searching but all i found was big tach swaps, and that apparently these little guys are kinda rare

Nitpicker that I am just can't help* pointing out the lighting wire colors are labeled backward. Gray is power from the dimmer rheostat, and the black wires are the ground side. Shouldn't really matter when just adding this tach.

*that and the weather-related slow season

Oh it matters, trust me.

My favorite electrical "Event" was the Volvo I bought from auction that was "stolen". A stolen 940, yeah, right. The PO screwed the ignition lock all up trying to make the car look like it was stolen. I knew nobody succeeded at stealing the car, that it was insurance fraud. I figured out why the PO did the fraud when I replaced the ignition lock and tried to start the car. No spark. Upon close inspection of the ignition circuit I notice a small black wire with all the insulation burned off of it. The numb nuts used the OBD 1 test probe to power the AC compressor. I'm not making that up. It of course, overloaded the wire burning the insulation off it all the way to the EZK and took out a bunch of other wires in that harness as well. Even the cigarette lighter ground wire was melted in the process. I installed a used replacement EZK harness and ended up with a really nice black on black, 940 Turbo sedan.

I thought the same, but I thought that grey was brown, and I thought all dash wiring in a 240 is typically brown. Is it not?

When it comes to a standard filament bulb...polarity is a non-issue.
You can flip the two wires for the bulb and it'll still work...as long as the ground wire goes to ground and the power wire goes to the illumination circuit.

If running an LED bulb...THEN polarity makes a difference.
