Alex's 122s Project.

Ended up finally starting on the car. rubbed it back with 80 grit, took it down to bare metal in some areas, but not all. Was great fun on the day my painter primed it, that there is meant to be a pillar trim on the c pillar! Whoops... Better than two nights later when it would have been in paint.

Went with a two tone white over red.

Bought two b20s, both ported heads etc, one was a complete motor with celica 5 speed attached. balanced crank and flywheel, 40' over pistons. Decked the block to make for a total of 32' squish with a b20e head gasket which I've measured myself as coming in at 28' squashed. Currently waiting on bearings from fcp, as despite the Motor apparently only having done 10.000km since a rebuild, and the compression is at 9.7:1, the bearings have signs on knocking.

Won't be an issue with twin dcoe 45s, a remapped electronic dizzy, and a wideband i hope.

Currently half re wiring the dash, changed to a blade fuse fuse block, added wires for fuel pump, stereo, e fan, gauges, and headlight main power.

More progress, but found out last night I need to find the body trim line at the c pillar before it gets painted tomorrow....

The section i need to expose...

Mostly fixed. Turns out it doesn't need very much bog vs what it had!

Up to clear now!

Pulled the motor down. Balanced properly, but it looks like total squish is at .50' with the head gasket. Bonus is the head, which i was told was done at the same time as the other motor I have, has bigger exhaust valves and ports. Also has a lightened flywheel.

Will also be fitting steel timing gears, and most likely will be decking the block another 12' to suit the stock b20e head gasket which is at .26' from what I can find online and based on my measurement of the what I assume is a b20e gasket.

Comparing the wade cam to a factory D cam.

So I had issues with my front panels. The red one needed mods to fit the earlier grill, thats ok. But, I started digging and found its been badly repaired on the top. Went to the doner cars panel, a bit of rust in the front, oh and 1" of bog in the centre.

So! Decided to cut both out and make a good one from two.

What have I done!?

This is why....

Not perfect, but faaaaar better than what the two were!

Almost finished the sound deadening, only the Front doors to do! The one cut section on the bootlid makes the lid sound solid to close. With enough deadening over the arches in the boot and inside, I hope it will be quieter. Plus there is more deadening to go on top then the vinyl floor.

Finished the deadening with two rolls of aluminium tape.

Then started to get this stuff on the floor.

Had to cut sections of it.... Bit ugly but under the vinyl it should shape fine. Adding stuff to the upper of the firewall as well, just like the factory does with its strawlike stuff.

Its behind the shot :p nah, I did clean up to a degree to fit more 122 parts.

Got my front panel back finally. sat the grille inserts inside to see the colours together... Tempted to do more chrome/aluminium trim in black. Or even black bumpers for now.

More progress. Front door windows.
And stainless rear door covers
And worked out the mounting for the gauges with the trim in place. Ended up using rivnuts on them as I will need to remove it easily.

Took for a quick drive today... Was going to update better on here but not much interest, plus it reset and lost my post once.
