DCOEs as an end goal makes more sense. I haven't had my B18 with a weber for long but I can tell there isn't much headroom to work with. Then again the Jeep guys make it work on 4.0L engines. I have been tempted by a 38/38 to replace my 32/36 when I eventually toss in a new cam and bump compression up to B18B spec. Although at that point rebuilding my thrashed SUs with new throttle shaft bushings can be done for a similar price.

When I purchased the carburetor I was told it was a 32/36 however, after further investigation, the carb is clearly stamped 38DGAS. Barrels are synchronized and good for 140 to 150 hp. I feel much better about this until I swap to DCOEs.

Looking very good!

For the steering wheel, maybe try Car-Bone (https://car-bone.pl/upholstery/) I've never used them but have seen their work on several group buys of steering wheel work for air-cooled Porsches. They're in Poland but the shipping costs seem to be worth the savings in labor.

Slow progress continues... Found a lower PS pump bracket, lowered the pump. Made a stainless cover plate for the wiper motor...for now, not sure what Iíll do there yet. Added a 1/2Ē spacer between the manifold and carb to avoid any throttle linkage headaches. The carburetor is mounted in place and ready to run. Pulled a Bosch 100amp alternator from a Ď95 940 to replace the stock alternator.

Is that an unmodded china bay turbo header you are going to run NA?

If it is, I was thinking of doing the same thing on my 1800 if it clears

Thanks Patrick, Iíve always enjoyed small but extra details on things. John shared that Ď85 & í86 b230s came with polished caps...on the hunt now.

Thank you, Iím constantly reminded how fortunate I am to have landed on this the way I did.

Hereís this weekendís project and current state. The only bit of rust was under the battery tray, angle grinder with wire brush wheel made a mess but easier work of it. Iíll shoot some POR15 tomorrow.
