1995 940 turbo *longterm* daily driver

I'm talking about the bsr heat shield. I just need to open up the hole for the amm to 3" and maybe relocate it slightly.

From memory, I laid out the 3" AMM hole opening on the original, moved just slightly F-R to get my K&N filter to clear my air box. Drilled new attachment holes 90* to the original hose in my air box (to resist the hose pull against it). Free handed with my dremel and cleaned the hole up with a tiny dremel drum sander. I think I put pics in my build thread?

So are running the 012 AMM without the air box right now?

I solved the angle of the filter with a angel reducer from do88 for the stock amm to a 3" ITG filter.

Did you use the angle reducer just to fit your filter? Or, did you use it to create some sort of swirl before the air passes through the amm? I've read something along those lines is why the factory used an elbow.

Correct. I didn't want to go hacking up the heat shield before everything worked well together.

Love the project thread, wish I'd seen it before!

I can't find a listing for that heat shield you have. Same BSR one as OP?

I used it for both those reasons. You should never put the airfilter directly on the amm.

I've been driving my car a lot, I'm happy to report. I was able to open up the cutout in my air filter enclosure to accept my 3" 012 amm. Everything now fits together nicely.

I'm waiting on my m47 to give up the ghost, like everyone on this board toots. But it's holding its own at 20 psi from my 16t. I don't jam gears or drop the clutch. I do, however, get on the interstate in third gear wide open most days, and it's been handling it like a champ. It feels nice and strong.

Next on the agenda is still to button up my interior after relocating the battery to the trunk. I also still want to work out a bracket for the coil for the wasted spark system, as well as finish my exhaust in 3" through the tail pipe.

My coil bracket project went to the far back burner - sorry about that...

I think you're on to something with the M47 assessment. For these old cars it seems lot of transmission life (after turning up the boost) depends on the driver. I'm not too hard on my 242 since it's mostly a DD, and my 300k mile M46 is holding up fine behind the B230FT swap. It might be making around 175hp at the flywheel. M46 still shifts cleanly and doesn't make much noise at all. As soon as I start cranking up the power I'm sure its remaining lifetime will be reduced, but until then, I'm having fun but not abusing the thing.

Missed this post; if you are referring to my Eurosport Tuning air box, it looks identical to the BSR which the OP has in his 9. I suspect Frank setup a buy with private branding for their business...... mine came from an AZ partout years back. Well made and engineered piece, whomever designed it did well.

My younger brother came by to drop off this wasted spark coil bracket. It came out pretty nice so thanks to him for that.

We popped the hood and cleaned the majority of my under hood grounds for gp. Redid a couple entirely also. They were all in poor shape. I'm not sure if it helped any but it couldn't have hurt.

I'm gonna make a post on it soon but what is the company these days to get a 19t upgrade kit from? Is ard tuning still the go to? There are cheaper eBay options. Curious to hear experience on "upgraded" 19t's?

Wasted spark bracket installed, again, courtesy of mbeas96. That finally puts me at about 99% completion on that project. It looks much more finished and in it's final resting place, just needs some sheath around the wiring and would be right at home for the most part.

Engine bay is filthy and my new telephone takes terrible pictures, which is ironic since I bought the phone for what was supposed to be a good camera.

I believe the general consensus is ard, but is there really another option other than kinugawa? I don't think you could go wrong with either one as you're just needing the compressor wheel and housing. Make sure the wheel you get is 56mm exducer!

The ebay option is not Kinugawa. I'd have to look it back up to figure out who was selling that one on ebay. So maybe there are three available options, but everything I've read points to ARD being the ticket, so I think you're right.

I've been running a kinugawa fwd 19t upgrade on a straight 7 hotside for two years now, and it works fine. The kits o-ring that seals the compressor housing was too thick/hard and I had to get an original mitsubishi one. Building a bracket for the actuator was not fun, in retrospect, I should have bought a rwd 19t/20t housing.

Have you two (or others) been satisfied with your 19t turbos? I'm hoping that's a 'final' turbo for this car. I'm wanting decent power and good reliability. Did it leave you wanting more, I guess is what I'm asking?

Can you ever bee satisfied when it comes to power? It provides decent power and fast spool, and beeing bolt-on is nice. I'd say its a really good choice for a daily. As long as I'm summer dailying my 9 I'm going to stick with the 19t. For a pure fun car I'd probably pick something bigger, from what I've heard the TD05 series is nice, too.

Oil change this morning at 255,962 miles. It's been a bit less than 3k miles since my last one, I think, but it's been longer than a year so it was over due. Old oil looked fine, but I had burned a bit off and I have a minor leak somewhere turbo related. It's not a pressing issue.

I ordered some blank chips as a local friend recently got a burner. I'll be happy to experiment with different chipsets. The chips I have been running are old; I believe Fred's. Although they've been working ok with my injectors/amm combo, I think something new might be fun.

you didnt tell me this...but sweet!

do you think changing the EZK chip will be necessary? or just the fuel chip?

Yeah, they came in a couple days ago. I'll get them to Sam sometime this coming week. And I doubt it's necessary, but I'll likely swap them out so they'll be a matched pair just for gp.

Also, I didn't use a Mann oil filter for the first time in my whole Volvo "career". Just didn't feel like ordering online when I didn't need anything else. Do you guys find these locally anywhere? Also, are there any thinner diameter filters for clearance purposes?

I've seen the Manns locally here a few times at advance auto parts.

I usually go to O'Reilly's or Park's but might check with advance next time. Thanks for the tip.

It's been a somewhat productive couple days with my car. I got new tires mounted and balanced for the front. Went with a 215/45 tire (256,030 for reference). I plan on picking up a pair of 235/45 for the rear when money allows.

Also, my wastegate actuator arm fell off the flapper. No boost to speak of. I'm not sure if my cotter pin broke or just fell off but it was missing in action. I put it back together and slipped another cotter pin on. I need to find a better quality cotter pin at some point.

Lastly, I got a decent pressure test done to actually check for boost leaks. I fixed 6-8 very minor leaks I found at various hose connection points. I also found three I still need to address: the egr vacuum line "T", the egr pipe that meets the intake manifold and my cbv. I'd like to get rid of egr and/or replace the gasket/t. I have never taken a cbv off though. Is there also just a gasket that needs replaced?
