Microsquirt 16v+t

To celebrate the 1000 mile marker, I did this for her. Should have gone to Jared.

Had some a/c issues this week with house and loaded the car up and went to in-laws, dog, cat , baby, supplies, and we took the g6 too. On the way the turbo feed hose separated, and killed the oil supply to turbo, and killed the turbo. If you ever have heard the sound, you know what that death moan means when you hear it trying to spool. So i wiped the cobwebs off my highly modified 70mm turbo, and installed it, new oil line and pulled intercooler out to clean, forgetting totaly that 7-10 years ago when i pulled turbo off my supra, it needed a oil seal for hot side. So it spools faster than the 60/62 did, and hits so much harder at much less boost. I also went from a twin scroll 70 a/r to a single scroll on center 69 a/r on hotside. This on center housing now resting where the off center housing used to be moved the turbo much closer to wastegate, so now i need to configure a new exhaust pipe and o2 placement. I may put the 02 sensor before the turbo. We will see .Unfortunately it was raining outside and at 5psi of boost the car goes sideways at 55 mph, so no more testing was done today, and for good reason. No o2 sensor feedback and i know it needs to be retuned from the drastic difference i already felt.So the bad is everytime it spools down and come to a stop a bit of smoke billows out of the turbo for 5 seconds and its fine again. Oil seal on hot side. So i pulled it back off and pulled it apart and robbed a oil seal from one of my bad 60/62, which even with a ruined cartridge, never smoked (when there was oil pressure in the feed hose). Haven't had a chance to test other than a quick line lock/ power boost in the garage, with no oil smoke after. So it looks promising. Here's some pictures.Damage

D8 bulldozer exhaust wheel, clipped and hole drilled out and welded to a t4 large shaft.Majestic turbo of waco initially built this back in 03 for a drag honda when i was working at Alamo autosports i got it cheap and used it on my Built Supra.

Difference between a 60/62 and a 70mm with a d8 bulldozer exhaust wheel.Look at the 70mm shaft closely , they even routed it down where it was welded! Pretty trick.

Indexed the two impellers before taking apart to make sure balance was fine. Typically with larger frame turbo's, you don't need to balance them if there is no damage, and you keep them indexed. That's what two turbo rebuild shops told me, but i haven't verified with anyone else.

is the stock holset of a gen 3 cummins what a lot of people are using to +t their bricks?

Took her for a spin yesterday and it smokes less at decel to stop, but still smokes. Shrug, was worth a try i thought. So i took it back off and took it back apart to find that the rear retaining clip was non existent holding the rear oil slinger/bearing, so the bearing was pushing back on the shaft and free floating and slinging oil into the oil seal, causing it to leak. I pulled apart one of my many t3/t4 china turbos and the clip was the same, so i used it, problem solved, no smoke at all now. Now i need to change the oil, filter and make a down/up pipe, install the o2 sensor and turn the boost back up from 15psi to whatever i decide is safe, injectors needed upgrading with last smaller turbo, so 18 psi is probably going to be max boost until bigger injectors are attained. Here are more pics.

70 mm is worth more in the hand than in the bush.

This should have sent me a red flag, the bronze bushing shouldnt come out with the shaft, yet it did because retainer clip was missing, and as you can see its pushed all the way to the back, usually there is a large gap between bronze and the raised metal towards the back of shaft.Unfortunately i missed this detail the first time.

The 70 MM is A bit violent. It has served me with a broken motor mount bracket on passenger side and i now have a transmission that likes to hang in first gear until about redline when its cold, time to change fluids, or time for t56 i recon. My turbo placement has burned up the waste gate diaphragm, so i need to change that out and add a exhaust to the rear to keep heat off the waste gate. Its kind of fun hitting 26psi and lifting, but not very purposeful. I have walked away from it and taken a mini vacation to Colorado To see family and Friends.

Motor mount killa. Two motor mounts broken and one motor mount bracket broken. Yay. Ordered new. Should be here mid next week. 70mm seems to pull a lot harder at 22psi than the tx60/62. So much lag, full boost at 5K .New modded manual 5.0 jumped me at a light last night boost launching, he jumped me a car and half, then i spun past Him in second so quickly, he "fright lifted" when i freight trained ,by him, spinning. I went to get gas after, and a viper went by, had to let that one live ;) . Pretty happy with my car so far, but i am getting more serious about the t56 i have.Buddy Rick Gentry is using a tilton clutch button pack, i think i may go this route. I need to be able to get off the line better, it's a lag wagon on the low end. But well worth the never ending top end pull. That first 60 feet though. SMH. sad.

Re-adjusted trans cable, and trans is not hanging in first when it's cold any more. Maybe she still has life in her.Shrug.

I will be adding a 2 litre surge tank with #o44 pump for more safety as I am pushing the fuel system to its limit with 1000 cc injectors and a 450lph pump.

I did consider that, but would that require a second microsquirt? As they will only run 4 injectors? Unless you have some inside tips on how to get it done? I'm confused on how the Ls guys run microsquirt with 8, so there must be some way to do it.Just not clear if and how.

Well, there's 2 injector outputs on the Micro, and each output can handle 4 injectors in batch fire. Sequential would be cooler, but batch fire that goes from bank to bank is still pretty good.

To run dual injectors, you'd need more injector outputs, unfortunately. Unless you put all 4 of your current injectors on one output, and the second bank on the other. That would limit you to true batch fire on both, but it might work.

nothing wrong with batch firing 4 at a time. how do you think the OEM ecu handles things?

Microsquirt will fire more than 4 injectors. You just have to re-purpose a pin. I think it's one of the LED pin's?

Tons of people are using microsquirt for LS swaps now. That should have all the info you need.
