Hello again TB.
Whilst I've accepted the inevitability of my situation, I thought I should still be prudent and get an opinion on some rust repair in the driver (LHD) footwell area on one of my 240s.
More specifically, rust located near the pass-through for the bonnet (hood) release cable and upper footwell area. Below is a "sideways" picture, the black sheathed cable and grommet are the bonnet pass-through to give a better idea of where this rust is located.
Some of the black... goop... in the picture is apparently from where the previous owner tried to attack the issue. Obviously they were not very successful.
As far as how this happened, unsure, but I did find other threads from the past saying rust around this was possible and is something to keep an eye out for, along with making sure your drain areas are clean, etc.
I can't fathom a straightforward way to repair this (eventually), but aside from the obvious solution of finding a less rusted candidate, I wanted to see if there was anything else I had not considered as there is a mild concern with any runoff (rain/melted snow, etc.) furthering this issue.
Thanks for your time.
