This weekend I relocated the battery from passenger side to driver side.
For now I just left the positive wire long (It's way to cold outside).
The engine bay cleaned up quite a bit.

The ground wire could just be reused.

Yesterday I finally swapped in my first M90 along with a diesel clutch. All worked out great and I'm really happy with the result.

The gears go in MUCH easier/smoother and the clutch feels really nice. I made my own short shifter for the M46 so I cant really compare the shift distances.

It definitely feels like a different car.

That's a real nice upgrade!
Did you use the stock flywheel combined with TDI clutch?

Going to swap my M46 for a late M90 (M90L2) next week.

Installed BTI's wasted spark kit yesterday.

I had some issues with it (hopefully they will be resolved today):

I did some testing because it would not start. After resoldering the wiring I finally got spark (I tested all plugs). The car still would not start. It started once but only for a few seconds. Checked all the wiring and voltages along with continuity.

Could the starting problems be caused by too much fuel in the cylinders from prior test starts? After it died on me after running a bit I gave up for the day and reconnected the dizzy. After all I had to go to work in 4 hours.

This weekend I found myself a 98' B230FT with 125.000 miles on it. It came with a AW71 but I already sold it the day I picked up the engine. I basically paid next to nothing for it.

It will get a all new seals, piston rings and a good paint job and cleaning.

Very nice find on the '98 Redblock..... you should have a proper "stage zero" with new rings and all sealings. What camshaft will you be running in the 8V?

Do yourself a favour and throw new crankshaft and rodbearings in there unless they look perfectly fine (they wont).
Cost around 100€.

Dennis

I sadly did not have a lot of time to update here. Stuff I did in the meantime:

- Got my hands on piston rings
- Ordered china rods, light crank pulley and adjustable cam gear (missing in pics)
- Got everything assembled and ready to be put in the car this Friday

A friend came over and I had to take this pic using his Borg Warner...

That turbo looks almost as big as the cam gear! Seems just about big enough. You might need rods made of unobtainium though... lol

My car is now officially not a +T anymore. The engine and engine support is installed and runs perfectly. I've read a lot of different opinions on breaking in the new piston rings. Some people say to drive easy for 1000km... others say to break them in quite aggressively.

Update: The engine runs great and is really quiet. On the rebuild I decided to leave out the rubber valve hushers. On medium RPMs the valve sound annoyed me so much (after an engine rebuild you "hear" a lot of noises ) that I put in new ones and now I'm happy again.

I have not posted an exterior pic on here in a while... time to test my new attachment feature. Got some new rims, fabricated a ridiculous spoiler and got hands on some side skirts (made in Sweden... I don't know who produced them)

Thanks a lot! Everything about the new engine feels great. I'm Still in a break in procedure... I want to get 1000km on it and do a fresh oil change before giving it some action. The engine was stored away 8 years so I'm a bit careful.
