Third brake light is illuminated when lights are turned on.
I came out of the grocery store yesterday, and noticed I left my running lights on. I went to the back of my car and saw my third brake light was on as well. I thought “that’s weird” so I turned the lights off and back on and the third brake light did not turn back on and thought “oh well”.
This morning when I parked my car at work I noticed the reflection of the third brake light on the wall behind my car. My foot was off the brake and the light is on. I turn the lights off and back on and now the third brake light comes on with the lights.
When I hit the brakes The third light gets brighter, then when I release the brakes it dims but remains illuminated. Basically it acts like the two brake lights on the sides.
About two years ago I had rewired the connections at the tailgate with a new harness from FCP. I have never replaced the bulb at the third brake light. Both housings for the taillights are new.
Prior to me noticing yesterday the brake lights were functioning properly. The third light turned on when I hit the brake pedal and turned off when the brake was unengaged.
doing some precursory investigation it seems that the bulb failure relay might be faulty.
Am I correct to suspect the bulb failure relay or could there be another cause?
