Well I probably should have started this when I first came to TBricks...but oh well better late than never right? This is a restoration with slight mods so OEM+.

I have always loved Volvo 240's since I was a kid and we had one along with everyone else in the family.

So after a lenghty fight with my insurance company I ended up stubbling upon this gem on craigslist...

The guy wanted $3100 which seemed pricy...but I kept seraching and saw that he had a double listing with a friend at a car dealer and it was listed for $2650...so I called and he agreed on the $2650...

I got the car the same weekend as Halloween so I had been with out a car since August 22 to October 31st. The 244 had a huge oil leak due to a clogged flame trap so the engine needless to say was covered in oil. It was also in need of some door pockets body trim and a couple other minor things. I was suprised when I looked in the glove box to find a Tourist and diplomat sales owner's book. The car was previously owned by a Major in the armed forces. The stickers on the windshield were all clearence stickers for a small airstrip and such. I got that all cleaned up and debuted to ya'll as this...

I got a question:

What is the tourist/diplomat thing all about?

Does that mean the car was a special delivery?

Basically someone went to Volvo in Sweden and ordered a US spec 240 and it was delivered to them back home upon completion... Theres a few floating around, and IIRC Volvo still offers that program.

I wish my rear suspension wasn't all wore out....then I can finally put back on my rear lowering coils.

This car is clean dude. Very nice!

Very clean 244, looks like you maintain it extremely well. As state above, you do need some nice looking wheels. If you are looking to keep the car "stock" and therefore only using OEM wheels, you'll have a few options for a decent look...Dracos are NOT one of them. Some that would look nice: Arrakis, Scorpius or Multi-x, and if you want to spend a little more money to broaden your choices I recommend Titans, Volans, or Tethys which would all require spacers but still OEM. Either way you have a real nice 244!
