saab temp sensors

I am putting an efan on the 240. Just went to the pick and pull and grabbed a couple tee's from the saabs and an extra temp sensor.

I was wondering if anyone knows if these types of sensors will work?

The sensor in the painted silver tee is out of a saab that had the sensor screwed into the radiator. It says 82/77 C on the side.

The second one in the rusty tee with pink writing is the sensor that came in the tee and says 110/115 C on the side.

I am planning on using the 82/77 one and wiring it to the fast side of the 940 relay I am using. Will this work or should I wire it to the slow speed? Also will the saab temp sender work or do I need a different type? I think I heard somewhere that the saab ones are always grounded and then break the ground instead of leaving the circuit open when it's cold then closing it when it gets hot, starting the fan.

What temp t-stat are you running?

FWIW, the Saab sensor which is located in the lower hose will run only long after the nhead temps rise to well above the t-stat, and will run the risk of overheat/overshoot, not good.
You're best to use a switch located in the top of the radiator where the temps are hottest (not cooled much by the radiator) and the fan switches on soon after the t-stat.
Use a switch that goes on ~5 deg higher than the t-stat, and switches off ~ the t-stat temps. So if the t-stat is 82 deg C, use an 87 ON/82 OFF switch.
If you use the 87/77 switch and you have an 87 deg t-stat (or even 82 deg t-stat) the fan will run constantly, until the t-stat closes.
You will be fine to use the slow speed fan for normal cooling. Use the fast speed for the A/C

See I have mine in the bottom hose with a 82/77 (I think, might be 87/82) switch and I think that makes a lot more sense. There is no need to turn on the fan until the temps coming out of the rad are warmer then the thermostat, (I have an 82? thermo is in there). I have had no issues with my set up this way in fact I think a warmer thermostat might be called for because it almost runs too cool. I have a single speed (fake) spal in my car and it works great. If the water coming out of your rad is 82 C or less that's plenty to cool everything. Even climbing the cuesta grade (7% grade for several miles) I barely see the temp touch halfway up the gauge.

Also, do your self a favor and order a new saab switch. They seem to go bad when they sit (have had one stick on and one stick off so far)

Hey, thanks for the help. I just put the one I had in because the auto parts store people never know how to help me when I go in there asking for anything other than a very specific part for the exact car and year. Anyway, it seems to work fine as it is. I might change it down the road if I feel like I want the fan to come on less.

use the saab hose t with a MK2 VW sensor it gives you 2 speeds perfect for running a 960 volvo fan. the sensor screws right into the saab pipe.

Oh and put it in the hose coming out of the radiator. If you put it in the other one it will come on for no reason.
