I used some jute padding under the carpet which helped to cut down on the road noise.

I like it. Maybe around the wheel wells in the back. Or above the head liner.

I've noticed that many new cars use a felt type material for fender skirts now vs plastic.

I've heard that too. Are sedans really quieter that wagons?

It's mostly the road noise that fatigues. The motor / exhaust noise is reasonable.

yep the cargo area is a big resonance chamber. A cargo cover helps too.
