So does anyone with better internet skills than me know how to find part numbers and on what vehicles they might of used this on?
I'm also looking for a downloadable
factory version of the T5 parts manual.
However the
closest thing I've found online for one has been the DT Components
'Drivetrain Components' 2008 catalog. It has most of the part numbers and diagrams,
but be warned there are a few errors in there, and it's not 100% complete.
http://www.dtcomponents.com/files/DT2008.pdf (21 Mb pdf file)
Used in combination with the T5 Model Identification.pdf put together by Tremec's Jeff
Chytil, that may assist you to collect the numbers you need.
Now, for fitting T5 boxes into Sevens and Nines here in Oz, versions of the T5 made locally
for the Ford Falcon AU series by BTR Engineering (a BW / Tremec company) have the ideal
extension housing length.
The extension housing part number is 0557-866906, and it's a BTR Engineering item. (BTR
components for Aussie T5 boxes carry '0552' or '0557' part numbers, instead of '1352' part
numbers).
The common or garden 13-52-066-939 extension housing as fitted to the 1352-251
assembly (AKA the so called Mustang T5Z box) and others results in Dimension A is 19.5
inches, or 495.8 mm if you prefer.
Using the '906 extension housing results in Dimension A being 23.8 inches. By the time you
add an adapter plate to the m46 bellhousing, it's as near as dammit to OE position in a
Seven or Nine, i.e 24.5 inches.
Smokers rejoice! You can save your ashtray! See?
This conversion was done on a 740 owned by a fellow Oz Volvoite known as Tree - his

These gearboxes are found on the Ford Falcon AU series.

Note that the Falcon gearboxes after the EB series all use the stronger tapered pocket roller
bearing input shaft. (I believe the 1352-163 assembly, tagged as "BTR" in most US-centric
T5 lists found online, was fitted to the EA Falcon). The 0557-020 assembly however is the
pick of the bunch, since it's the so-called 'T5Z' spec box with the strong cluster, tapered
pocket input bearing, and all the good stuff.
To use the XR8 box with any of the Volvo adapter plate kits, just replace the V8 Falcon
input shaft with the good old 1352-085-060 input shaft (24 tooth, 9 1/4" overall length,
WC Tapered Pocket Bearing, 10-spline), and recheck the preloading of course.
The 6 cylinder box (with a 23-tooth input shaft) should be adaptable with a 1352-085-050
input shaft (23 tooth, 9 1/4" overall length, WC Tapered Pocket Bearing, 10-spline).
Note also that you won't find most Australian-fitted T5 boxes on US-centric lists (with
three exceptions) and that the tags on Aussie boxes are very different.
All this info may help Aussies thinking of this conversion - and visitors to our shores who
may wish to do some shopping while over here and go home with a heavy suitcase, which
will no doubt be very entertaining for the TSA upon your return.
