I'm currently in the process of reupholstering my '89 740's headliner and I can't seem to find any good instructions on how to reupholster the sunroof headliner. I will also replace the sunroof seal so it will likely need to come out anyway. The instructions I have found so far are a bit too vague for me to understand. If anyone knows any good tips/tricks or clear instructions to reupholstering the sunroof headliner it would be of great assistance. It is an electric sunroof if that makes any difference.
Thank you for your help.

Here are 4 good references for you:

https://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/InteriorTrimandPanels.htm#HeadlinerDIY https://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/BodySunroof.htm

Does that help? To me at least they are clear instructions, covering all the important aspects.

That "seal" you mention around the exterior panel of the sunroof, if that is what you are wanting to redo, good luck, those weatherstrippings are NLA. They never really sealed anything tight in the first place. Water always seeped thru, supposed to drain out of the sunroof assy. pan via the drains in all 4 corners. So spend your efforts making sure those drains are functioning properly.

Thank you very much for the references.
About the seal, I know that they do not fully seal the sunroof from any water, but the one on my car, being in the Florida sun for 30 years had degraded to the point where it ripped into 2 pieces after using the sunroof, which let water gush in more than the drains could handle. I have a good used one coming now.
Thanks
