Hey, guys! I have a lovely (but argumentative, presently) Volvo 240 station wagon; 1990, original red block engine.
A little bit ago, she stopped starting. The engine will crank, and the injector line seems to work properly (with all the fuel pressure of her glory days), but there's no spark. We tried throwing some money into new spark plugs, a new ignition coil, new distributor cap and rotors, and we still have no spark. The distributor rotor does turn. There's also a brand new timing belt installed by a pro, so nothing is the result of bad timing. At this point, here's what I'm thinking could be wrong:
I'm going to rip into the electrical systems with my brother tomorrow to test each of these, but my questions are:
1. What are some effective ways to check these items with minimal test equipment (a test light and a multimeter)? I'm able to buy a few odds and ends from local parts stores, so recommend what you will.
2. Are there any other issues you would advise checking for? Anything I could be overlooking? I will happily check other things, but be warned; I'm not a very well-versed Volvo enthusiast, and I will probably need some things spelled out plainly.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Y'all have a lovely evening.

- Wire between coil and cap
- Something within distributor
