Default Another Ruined 242GT...

Minor backstory: I wanted something NA and (in theory) more reliable than my B21FT-swapped 262C, that I wouldn't be tempted to ruin, so I bought Jack's 242GT in November.

As she sat then:

I just bought a thing.

A post shared by Kayla Anne (@kaylaonfilm) on

Boring, stock-ish... Lowered on iPd springs/Bilstein HDs/iPd bars... Basic 242 GT...

Me, showing off with my car.

Then, things started to get interesting. First, the timing belt broke, then I popped a heater hose, and then then there were the random electrical hiccups that I traced back to the cable running from the junction box to the positive terminal on the battery... Found that one on I-5 heading north out of Anaheim, after the Radwood 2 meet... Oh, and I was chasing a fueling issue too, because of course I was.

Then, the main pump went out... On the way home from my first outing with an amazing woman... Because, of course it would. This became a common occurrence, with this happening on our next outing... Which led to performing a purification ceremony on a 242 at 2:45AM, in the middle of Berkeley.

**** it, it's time to perform witchcraft.#volvolife #witchesinvolvos

A post shared by Kayla Anne (@kaylaonfilm) on

And then, the in-tank pump died, while out with two amazing women in Monterey, and I had to leave my car with Patrick in Santa Cruz for a week, while he got the bugs ironed out of the K-Jet.

And with all of that said and done, I'm starting to come up with a plan, now that I'm at a decent Stage 0.

As she sits now:

Rolling in style. , , , , , , #volvolife #242gt #mareisland #livinginthe80s

Current mods:
iPd springs
32mm adapters
iPd sway bars
Previous owner's Fartcannon exhaust
Early 2000s-spec Pioneer stereo with decent speakers and Bluetooth via the M-BUS connector
Cibie E-code headlights with relay harness
Driving lights swapped with 6" LED bars
LED tails
GT Cluster
#420CitrusLimeCrystalSquashAirSpencerBlazeUpTheSme llGoodeness
Australian-inspired red GT emblem for the bling factor.
Mudflaps
15x8 Gram Lights 57DR wheels mounted on 32mm 5x114.3 adapters
Toyo R1R in 225/45R15
Bumper stripes
Mk3 Supra seats
V15 NA cam with adjustable gear

To-Do list:
RX7 calipers, for the wider variety of pad options.
Exhaust, because the previous owner's fartcannon is starting to irritate me.
Trunk shocks
Paint?
GT Stripes
Early GT airdam
Ben's coilovers and adjustable torque rod/panhard rod
Ben's 5.25" speaker mounts and grilles for the front doors
Reinforce the interior door handle rod, because it's becoming a minor irritant.
Move the T5 from the trunk to the transmission tunnel

Next on the list: Tires for those wheels, and getting them mounted.

Citrus Lime Crystal Squash Air Spencer is my favorite Spencer.

Those wheels are awesome, crush the virgos.

Using adaptors on the wheels or where they made to fit 5x108? Offset?

Looks like a fun car. You will love the V15. Been running one for a long time and it makes the engine come alive. Advanced 6 degrees is how I run mine.

25mm 5x108 to 5x114.3 adapters. They're 15x8 ET35, so they should just about work since the Virgos have 32mm adapters already.

I was going to run it straight up for now, because 4.10, but I may advance it, depending on how it feels.

Yeah, with a 4.10 the revs will happen quickly. Plus you have the lighter flat flywheel. i would still suggest a couple of degrees just to help low rpm torque. I run two advanced on my turbo V15 that uses a 3.73.

Today's progress: Pulled the two pins from the half-moon connector and installed the R-Sport cluster. Next step: Wire up the voltage meter and get the 10 bar oil pressure sender in.

Brief update: It's getting a set of 225/45R15 R1Rs on Monday, since those are the best compromise with decent performance tires, that fit an 8" wide wheel.

Next on the agenda, a set of gold Enkei92s or factory FC convertible wheels so I can move the Michelin hockey pucks over and have a decent daily driver setup, without having to swap adapters every time I change wheels.

While I was on my lunch break, I decided I'd do a little something, based on this picture.

It's getting the ENEM V15 NA, not the VX. Much more interesting.

If you don't already know him, contact Ben over in Bernal Heights across the bay from you.
He usually has a GT in his fleet and is an absolute wealth of knowledge and parts.

We'll be flying in to run his 123GT and his p1800 with him in the SF->Tahoe Snowball rally at the end of April.

Don't know him, but I like his 242 and hope he's at Davis.

Now, for progress on my car... Chinesium polisher lasted about 10 minutes into doing the hood, but it made good progress for that 10 minutes... Today is probably going to be spent over at my cousin's working on his '78 242 or his wife's 300ZX, so it'll be tomorrow before I get back to polishing. Hopefully I can knock it out between Kaiser appointments.

Yesterday's #Radwood progress on the #242GT.

A post shared by Kayla Anne (@kaylaonfilm) on

In other news, the R1Rs are on the way, and I'm hoping to have them in-hand on Wednesday or Thursday, so I can have them mounted and installed before Radwood. Mudflaps are going on today, after I pick up some stainless hardware to mount them.

V15 should go in next week, if the stars align.

I am the person Sanchius is referring to. My 75 242DL is slowing making its was to being a 242GT and as he mentioned I also have a 1967 123GT as well. I've been fairly quiet on Tbricks recently.

Unfortunately will not be at Davis this year as it is coinciding with the Snowball Rally as they both happen on the last weekend of April. I haven't been able to make the Davis meet in the last 5 years.

One of these days, I want to see your 242. I've always had a thing for well put-together Volvos.

Now, for today's glimpse of progress; I finished polishing the hood and applied the reflective striping to the bumpers, between doctor's appointments. A little bundle of stickers from Dave Barton showed up this afternoon, so I may get some more things taken care of, tonight.

More forward progress on the #242GT before #Radwood
