Is your cross member already in the furthest forward holes on the frame rails?

It's in the most rearward holes.

Crossmember is coming along. But that was a sketchy piece of machining. Lots of vibrations, lots of noise.

I need to shorten the mounting plate, weld it in, and then box the rest of it. I think it'll turn out pretty well.

Planning to box the top side of the X member, or leave it "open air"? Much of the section has been destroyed with the metal removal.

Did you make one or modify the stock one? How big are the 4lx0s anyway?

I tried angle grinding first, but it wasn't uniform enough for me. I'm mediocre at machining. I'm bad at grinding.

Spent some time with the angle grinder and welder tonight. I think it turned out pretty well. Not as nice as I'm sure some of you could make, but should do the job and look decent with some powdercoat on it.

Very nicely done! Your weld quality puts mine to shame. TIG or MIG?

It's TIG, but I didn't do the welding. My good friend is a welder and helped me with this because there were some weird angles and a couple gaps.

Got the crossmember back from powdercoat. I think it looks great. I installed it and bled the clutch, but it didn't feel like it was releasing properly. I will re bleed it and if that doesn't work, I'll pull the trans again and check my throwout bearing adjustment.

While I've been doing this transmission stuff, I've also been remaking my engine bay wiring harness. I wasn't too happy about my old harness, I had no idea what I was doing, made some concessions, and wasn't sure it would work like I wanted it to. This time around I still have no idea what I'm doing, but I know a little bit more. This harness has much better splices, is only tefzel wire, and is concentric twisted (at least my ignorant attempt at twisting). In any case, I'm really happy with how it's looking so far. I still need to put some lacing on it, test fit it, cut the branches to length, put Raychem DR-25 and molded boots on, and install the connectors, but the hard part is done. The twisting made a huge difference. It's much more flexible than my old harness.

"This time around I still don't know what I'm doing." Pretty much me every time I go to work. Looking good!
