Battery relocation...cable routing 245

I'm putting the battery in the spare tire well in my 245. I ran the battery across to the passenger side of the trunk. Where are you guys going with the cable to get through the rear wheel well? Once I get it to the rocker, I'm fine, but I cant figure out how to get it from the back, around the rear wheel well.

Thoughts?

Ran 2/0 welding cable from the starter along the brake and fuel lines under the drivers side. Ran it over the axle all the way to the back and the across rear edge of the body to the right wheel well. Entered the wheel from the back side through a rubber grommet. Battery installed in a plastic battery box. Ground cable mounted under the head of bolt through frame for bumper shock.

I'm trying to come up with an idea for mounting a battery tray in the spare tire well.

Impossible in a Volvo

The e36 battery is located in the trunk

Once you pull the entire battery harness along with the junctions under the hood you will find out that it is long enough to relocate the battery to the passenger butt cheek in any 240

While I have not installed it yet I have laid it out in a 240 shell

I did essentially the same thing. In most situations, cable is not in danger the way it is routed but I used a fuse on the + cable in the butt-cheek coming off the battery in case of some extreme accident the grounds the + cable.

Consider another trunk solution......Google "start 'em up" trunk battery kit. I used his complete setup in my 70 Malibu trunk battery conversion. Part of the genius is using a FORD starter solenoid in the trunk, so that the positive batt. cable is DEAD at all times unless you are cranking. The next move is to use the BMW battery box, or any NHRA sanctioned "vented box" so you don't build hydrogen fumes from your charging battery. If you want to see my Malibu setup, PM me and I'll link you to the photoalbum.

I just put my battery in the trunk of my 740 and am trying to come up with a way to fuse/electrically separate the Starter cable, this thread gives me some good ideas. Right now I just run cable to the starter and use it as a primary power dist point. I liek the MAD start em up idea and will use a variation of that. My cable was from a BMW at the yard as well. I just ran its over the rear arch and its covered.

I order the cable with a crimp-on terminal to fit the starter stud. After installation I trim the cable to the desired length at the battery and use clamp on style terminals. So, just estimate the length with a little extra.

I ordered the cable from batterybill.net. Specify the cable, 2/0 arc welding cable, and the starter stud size.

From the starter I ran a 10GA wire to the little junction block. Then another from the block across the back side of the cross member to the alternator. I also installed a VDO voltmeter.

The Google "start 'em up" trunk battery kit sounds very interesting.

I see this kit is for earlier GM cars- wonder if it will work with my '06 starter?

It will work with any car... its just a high current relay. only makes connection between battery plus and starter when energized, means that big ole red wire from the trunk to starter is not live all the time and when it shorts, you do not have instant doom. It involves a bit of rerouting of other wires, but simple stuff. I was pretty careful to router my battery plus and not too worried, but its another layer of safety
